Communist movie reviews!

Don’t ask how I found it. Just look at http://www.etext.org/Politics/MIM/movies/ . The sad part is … they’re serious.

Some excerpts …

A Bug’s Life

*Amerikan imperialism has always cloaked itself in the rhetoric of freedom and the struggle against oppression, while actually denying the broad masses any true freedom and oppressing entire peoples around the globe. So very few audiences will recognize themselves or their government in the grasshoppers of “A Bug’s Life” and take home the lesson that they should be fighting against Amerikan imperialism. *

Men in Black

The Men in Black consider themselves “above the system,” and indeed they are in this movie fantasy of the aspiring intergalactic bourgeoisie which long ago went beyond petty national conflicts like that seen at the Mexican border. The Men in Black want their rule to appear “neutral” and beneficial to humyn-kind, as if it were possible for a state to be class-neutral.

Spiderman

Peter Parker said “With great power comes great responsibility.” The great power he refers to is his Spider-power. MIM would take this quote and apply it to the power of the people to end hunger, stop deaths from preventable diseases, end wars, stop the destruction of the environment, and build a world where no group of people has power over other groups. All individuals have the power to take up this fight, and particularly here in the imperialist countries where we benefit from this suffering around the world, we have a responsibility to do so.

Distrust of politicians, favorable attitudes toward dictatorship,
inclinations toward genocide–clearly Anakin Skywalker has the makings of a classic Nazi. Just as Hitler copied much of Lenin on the vanguard party, Anakin Skywalker is going to take all the training of the Jedi Knights before becoming a full-fledged imperialist.

Hey elmwood these are bizarre! How did you come across them?

I agree with them that Star Trek: Insurrection was a bad movie, but I can’t take anyone who spells “women” as “wimmin” seriously.

Is Popeye a commie now???

Popeye was always a commie. I thought it was obvious that “I yam what I yam” was a reference to his anti-capitialism stance which he couldn’t help. The canned food thing is a dead give-away too, since canned food is the food of the masses.

Or, for that matter, anyone who types “humyn-kind,” and means it.

Note the “Buy It!” links after many of the titles (which go to amazon.com). Taking down the capitalist corporate oppressor indeed…

Hehe … I was actually Googling for images of Berkeley, California. I was planning on photoshopping a picture of Ann Coulter into one. Long story. Anyhow, one thing led to another, and all of a sudden I’m reading Mao at the Cineplex 24. .

Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar. However, Bambi is always representative of the struggle between wymin of colour and their carno-AmeriKKKan white male oppressors.

I’m a proud liberal, but I kust don’t get “progressives” or others who have that “no matter what decision America makes, it’ll be wrong” mindset. Bah … that’s one for Great Debates.

FWIW, the “buy it” links are only to movies that “contribute to political knowledge”, i.e., don’t conflict with their political agenda.

Check out their Moulin Rouge review, “personal” is spelt “persynal”. I guess I have to give them credit for originality.

cheers,
Hydge (who thinks it would be much cooler if it was spelled “Whymmynh”)

It better not, comrade.

“If those who have not fundamentally cleared out the ideology of the petty bourgeoisie, and have not plainly understood the system of past opportunism, and decisively participated in struggles, and then think that the opportunist devils will never approach, they are suffering from an illusion. Oh, and a large box of Goobers.”

But what’s the deal with the worms? Why don’t they mention the worms? Why click on the “Dune” link if they leave out the worms?

Maybe they were walking without rhythm…

And here I thought I might get a chance to talk about Sergei Eisenstein. Oh, well.
