I’ve seemed to notice quite a few automobile-related queries on this board, I was considering giving these questions their own forum in this thread.
I cannot call myself an automotive expert, but I have worked for a number of professional independent mechanics (mostly import vehicle experts), picking up a few things (enough to tinker on my own) and feel fairly confident in being able to offer some advice. Particularly, I’d like to give the insider’s perspective in terms of what goes on behind the scenes at a repair shop. Did you get ripped off or not? What does your mechanic think when you do this or that? Is $X too much too pay for this part? Etc, etc…
I can’t claim to know everything, so I also invite any other mechanics and/or mechanically inclined individuals to answer whatever questions they are qualified to speak up on.
