Yeah, this episode was too similar to that one. At least in the Dungeons & Dragons episode, Abed’s quirks facilitated the story without being the central focus of it.
I didn’t get Inception! I DIDN’T GET INCEPTION!
Loved the episode. After an episode in which the students of Greendal turn into ersatz zombies and they have multiple pillow and paintball wars I’m not concerned with believability.
I totally want some Inspector Spacetime merchandise. If I dress for DragonCon (Atlanta sci-fi/fantasy con) it will probably be as I.S. or an I.S. character (since I can’t think of how to make John Goodman’s dean character relevant to a sci-fi/fantasy con).
I thought this week’s episode was keen. Keen keen keen.
I thought it was very good, especially the Troy freakout, but when I saw down to watch it I almost sat on my balls.
A couple brief parts that I liked a lot wrapped in a lot I liked not at all.
“I love butt stuff.”
He and Britta are made for each other.
Abed’s freak out was also hilarious. It strikes me that I recognized that high-pitched “eeeeeeeee” from somewhere.
I wonder if Abed would recognize the reality of the ‘power source’ outside of the Dreamatorium.
I find the character of Abed is pretty spot-on for high-functioning autism coupled with high intelligence. Although the folks in my life who are on the autism spectrum tend to be less physically graceful than Abed, that could just be Danny Pudi’s dance training. He probably couldn’t be physically awkward if he tried.
I wish that Danny Pudi and Donald Glover could somehow share an Emmy. They play together so well that it’s hard to determine which one should get an award. If the show gets cancelled I still hope (unrealistically) that they continue working together as a comedy team.
An article on renewals on ET the other night gave Community high odds of being renewed because
1- It already has a core audience (even if it’s not big)
2- It’s cheaper than many replacement sitcoms would be (especially star vehicles)
3- NBC has set a pretty low bar since they’re in the ratings crapper in general
So I’m hoping.
Mostly this week I was bored. It wasn’t really bad. But it wasn’t good.
What the sound he made made me think of was the two weirdo “alien” kids in “Just one of the Guys.” At one point the bully grabs them and they make a sound like Abed did.
I wish that tag had been earlier in the season. Would’ve been a nice little early tease about Abed freaking out over someone messing with a blanket fort.
That was one of the most gorgeous and affecting episodes of television I’ve seen in a long time. Brilliant. One of the most moving episodes of the series - and I don’t generally find it to be a very moving show, I usually like it for it’s cleverness - but this had both. I thought it was really special stuff, one of the best episodes ever.
Just… wow.
I wasn’t thrilled with it. It’s still better than a lot of shows though. I’d like to see the show maintain a foothold in reality again. Every show is pure fantasy now, and continuity only consists of direct references to past episodes. If TV wasn’t in a ‘vast wasteland’ state right now the show wouldn’t have much chance of surviving.
cool-cool-cool
One of the best episodes of television in recent history. If it weren’t for all the other recent great Community episodes it would be the best far and away.
Just so many, many things crammed in. Little touches: How they avoided Annie and Jeff (really Abed) actually kissing. The density of little jokes and references was amazing.
Britta in love is even more gorgeous than usual. Alison Brie really threw herself into her role(s).
The Dean becoming self-aware of his own overdoing things was good. Then having him come back from the bank refreshed in his own delusion was even better. That is how you do these things. Let the characters realize their oddities, but end up relishing them.
So is Annie now over Jeff after her revelation?
I hope so, that’s such an annoying storyline.
But Britta and Troy is even worse.
I’ll follow Community anywhere it goes. It’s only job is to be funny. This episode just wasn’t funny.
Normally, that’s a so what. Especially on this show great episodes are followed by weak ones all the time. But I agree with quixotic78 that making Abed seriously insane is a horrible move.
Loved this episode. Literally had me crying with laughter.
“I have to go to the bank today! What am I supposed to tell them? That I had good news and bad news?”
Annie as Abed as Annie with Abed as Annie as Abed.
Troy’s entire breakdown. “I just to know they feel comfortable.”
“I’m sorry, your meal isn’t going to be ready for another 30 minutes, I was too busy misunderstanding Die Hard.”
Love this show to a degree that isn’t healthy.
