I think we have a different definition of quick. I was referring to spiral CFLs, and if I flick a switch and have to wait for the light to turn on, it’s an annoyance. Even if it’s 1/2 second, because my old lights were instant, and when I want light, I don’t want a half second delay. I know that sounds awfully silly, but it annoys me. And there are CFLs which come on instantly, so I know it’s possible. I returned the lights with the delay to Lowe’s, and will look for them elsewhere. The cheap ones I bought from Home Depot did not have that problem, but I never remember to get more of them when I am at HD.
I do agree with many of the complaints, some CF bulbs have a 1/2 a second to come on at all - and this is annoying as you are not sure if everything is working. Fortunately most CF lights have no such delay anymore, but a still few do.
Then there is the issue of waiting for full brightness, which in my experience is about 20 seconds and it is noticeable, Now in a bathroom when I have to get up early I appreciate not going to full brightness right away, but other times it’s just a suck in up and bear it issue.
Another issue is the light quality, and I don’t think that what they say is a equivalent truly is as we perceive it and find for a truer equivalent you have to upsize your CF lights a bit, but there is still a huge savings.
Buzzing is rare from my experience but occasionally you get a bum bulb, fortunately most people have a location to install such a bulb that won’t bother them like a outdoor light fixture.
