Looks like this third one’s a must see according to Slates’ David Edelstein
Well, it walks all over the prequels, that’s for sure.
The epic battle scenes definitely go to Lord of the Rings, in my opinion. Part of the battle in Return of the King is quite reminiscent of the battle on Hoth, to the point where you feel like Empire Strikes Back copied it, even though it came out 20 years ago.
Star Wars has the better one-on-one swordfights, though. This goes for the prequels as well.
The most assinine comparison I’ve seen in a long time. What’s his next insight - “The B-2 Stealth Bomber makes the Wright Brothers Flyer look like a 3-rd grade wet-cardboard tinker toy” ?
The LOTR movies are good but it does not detract from the original Star Wars movies nor should it be compared in this manner.
I’d say their on par with the original Star Wars trilogy. They blow the new ones out of the water. But then, bad Japanese-made Saturday morning cartoons blow the new ones out of the water.
