The Amazing Race starts with a two hour premier Sunday. Here is a question I’ve had for several years and perhaps someone here has the answer.
How are contestants on that show compensated? We know that the team that gets to the finish mat first gets a million dollars, but what do other teams get?

Wiki just says teams are paid for wages they’d lose from lost days at work. Okay, but wouldn’t the first few teams eliminated be put in some kind of holding pattern, since it would be a huge giveaway if they showed up back at work three days after starting the race?
Since the race is a progress elimination, wouldn’t there be some kind of progressive payout? By this I mean the 7th team eliminated would get more compensation than the first team eliminated?

Well, I don’t what the compensation is, but I do know that they sequester eliminated teams in some foreign resort.

IIRC, the early eliminated teams were sequestered in Thailand last season. Late eliminations do not go to sequesterville, I think they actually act as decoys to dissuade spoilers.

My understanding is that there is a progressive payout but for the earlier legs it’s just a few thousand. That may sound great but it probably cost you that much to be in the race.
