Competition: what is the weirdest item you can find on eBay right now

I admit that I hadn’t even read the whole mermaid ring listing when I posted it. I only got halfway through the page before putting my horse in the race, so to speak.

Turns out that Sasha the mermaid was discovered off the coast of Humboldt County, where I’m from:

For all I know, I went to college with “Terri”. Humboldt is quite well known for its herbal enlightenment, which might explain Granny and Clan’s unique world view.

Until this thread I didn’t realize that ebay had an actual category called “weird stuff.”

An aquaintance of mine admitted to selling a mummified squirrel (found in a wall of her house during remodeling) on e-bay. I think she got something like $25 for it.

Depends on where you are. In the UK, “daddy longlegs” refers to a crane fly. In the US it can refer to a Harvestman (Opiliones) or an actual spider (Pholcids).

Waaah! The item had been removed from eBay by the time I hit your link. What WAS it?

Some truly weird stuff, but nothing can beat the Ghost in a Jar (nor the Jar in a Ghost.)

Better yet, order from the source and pay only 15¢ per tract – that’s a 9¢ savings over the eBay seller’s sucker rate for a six-pack!

I just entered the word Crap in the Internet marketplace’s search box and came up with this book. Can any of our UK Dopers suggest likely candidates for inclusion in the volume?

John DiFool - did you read the Q&A section (or indeed my post that you quoted)? To explain, “known stateside” means “known in the US”. In the UK a daddy long-legs is not an arachnid but an insect, which known in the US as a crane fly.

Oh, gimme that old time segregation . I’m sure the high bidder is only interested in it for the historical value, since the ID is ‘kept private’.
