Apparently she had become angry at her husband after an argument/fight and decided, for what reason nobody knows, to just get out of the car right then and there and… I don’t know, exchange places with her husband? Who the hell knows?
She was way beyond stupid, although in this case I guess there is a remote chance that, if she was in a real white-hot anger, she may not have been thinking properly.
Nonethess, still an astonishingly idiotic thing to do.
My pity is reserved for the tiger in question that ended up being destroyed, thanks to the tremendous lack of foresight of an idiot.
According to the article, the woman who was killed was the mother of the first woman who had gotten out of the car. She was killed trying to rescue her daughter, who was dragged away by one tiger. Her daughter was mauled, but left alive with severe injuries. The mother was killed by a second tiger. The reason the daughter had left the car was because the family thought they had left the wild animal enclosure.
Reminds me of when my parents visited me in Mozambique. As part of their sightseeing in South Africa, they went to Kruger National Park and did a night safari. They raved about it, but marveled at the behavior of the guide, who they said got out of the jeep and stood out in the open to smoke a cigarette even though lions had been seen nearby.
So when my husband and I went to the same lodge a few weeks later, we tried to book a night safari but were told they were “temporarily canceled.” We then heard that the night guide had been killed by a lion. So we are pretty sure it was the guide my parents had.
It’s obviously true what they say: smoking can lead to your death!
