Computer/Gaming woes.

Tres bizarre, Bosda… it works just fine under XP on my computer, without any of that compatibility mode futzing.

Have you upgraded to SP2? Might make a difference.

Or, try running the game without the CD in. On my old PC (Win '95 P233) the game would sometimes crash when the CD spooled up to play the music.

You’re welcome. Now, as I’m sure you know, comments about Moderator decisions belong in the Pit. I’m sure you’ll do better in placing such comments there in the future.

Done and done, chimpy.

I’m not sure if there’s a craigslist or Bargain Finder or the like near the Duchy of Grand Fenwick, but I’d look in to a used PC if I were you. I just gave my parents an old PC of mine that’s twice as good as yours, and it was used when I bought it ~3 years ago. Around most offices, PCs like yours get thrown away.

Some people selling think their 5 year old PC is still worth $1500, but most have a reasonable if not under-valued price in mind; if money is tight (or you’re just a cheapskate on principle like me  ), then it’s the way to go.

Bosda, you in or near NYC? I got spares.

Just like CivII, only better.

While you save up for your new computer and the fun of Civ 4 (with the Warlords expansion kit), you should be able to run Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on your old machine.

Both are turn-based games of skill, with easy to learn controls. A game lasts a decent time and you can soon pick up where you left off.

Now is not the right time to be buying a new computer. Wait until the summer when the mainstream DX10 graphics cards become available. Then get a cheap Dell with Vista. The trick is to get one of the machines they’re end-of-lifing.

Bingo.

Works fine.

Many thanks, to one & all!
