I’m trying to use my headphones to listen to music on my computer by plugging them into the computer speaker’s aux jack. If I plug the headphones all the way in though, there’s no sound at all. But if I plug the headphones almost all the way in, I can listen to relatively quiet sound that mainly goes to my left headphone speaker. :dubious: Why doesn’t it work to plug them all they way in as they’re designed to be used? I’ve tried two different headphones btw.
I’ll move this to GQ for you.
My guess is that there is a fault in the headphone jack which is preventing it from working when pushed in all the way; one cause could be the built-in switch that tells the speakers that headphones are plugged in (so the sound is redirected to the headphones and the speakers are cut off).
Another thing that may be significant is that the tip of the plug is connected to the left headphone, and this part will make contact first when inserted (possibly with the contact for the right side when it works partially inserted).
Also, since you say the sound is rather quiet, corrosion could be another cause; have you tried rotating the plug in the jack (so as to scrape off any corrosion that may be present)?
