Computer problem...again

Hi there, me being the king of computer illiteracy (if there’s such a thing can’t figure out the following…

How do you change the media default on your computer…I want it to be windows media but I recently downloaded quicktime and it changed it to that…I did it before but I can’t seem to remember how to do it again :frowning:

Also, I’m having problems with my disk defragmenter…it freezes…well, it doesn’t do anything after it reaches a certain point…like say…10% (last time I tried)…any ideas guys?

THANK YOUUUU

If you have Windows Media Player 7.0, right-click in the player’s window and choose Options. Go to the Formats tab, check the formats you want associated with this player, click on Apply, then on OK.

About Disk Defragmenter, see this article. Also, close down any antivirus programs you may be using before starting the defragmenter.

Thanx…got the media part done…but I have a Windows 98… would that make any difference?

No difference. The problem with defragmenter is due to programs running in the background. Your antivirus is one, but you should also shut down anything that shows up in the system tray (i.e., next to the clock).

Boot to DOS when you run scandisk (run this first) & Disk Defragmenter. Or spend a few bucks & get a real Disk Defragmenter program.

      • Defragmenter: Virus programs as well as automatic screen savers kicking in will basically make a defrag program run in circles: you have to turn the screen saver completely off. Ya might have known that anyway, but it wasn’t mentioned. - MC

MC, third party defrag programs don’t mind screen savers & virus scanners running. That’s why they are so cool. People spend $1500 on a computer but won’t spend $50 on a program to maintain it. I like SystemSuite 2000.
