Computer program that alerts you when a web page changes?

A little backgorund here…

We have a radio station here in San Diego where you earn points through various activities that can be cashed in for prizes on their web page.

The radio station pre-announces on their web page what the prizes are with a ‘coming soon’ banner. Then at some random point, they activate it and you can log in and get the prize if you have enough points. Needless to say, I’m getting frustrated with logging on randomly at 2:00pm, finding it is ‘coming soon’, then logging on again at 2:30pm and finding it is ‘sold out’.

What would be great would be a program that runs in the background which monitors a specific web page on a site and tells you when the content changes with some kind of alarm or alert feature. Is there anything out there that does this?

The Mozilla browser has such a feature for bookmarks. You can let it check a certain site every minute and when it changed notify you by a sound, a message box or just by opening the site.

I never use that feature so I don’t know if and how good it works. But maybe you should give it a try

There are a number of free web-based services for this. I will try to dig out the name of one I used.
