Computer was infected, antimalware fixed it, but two problems remain

My start menu has no icons on it. And a fake “system restore” icon exists on the taskbar right next to the start menu. (This “system restore” icon of course actually would invite me to redownload the malware, I’m sure.)

Malwarebytes’ Antimalware got rid of the infection as well as it could, but these particular symptoms remain. Any idea what I can do?

You probably need to run unhide.exe from bleepingcomputer.com, which will undo the changes made by the malware that hide your icons. Are your documents and pictures missing also?

I also suggest that you scan your PC with another malware scanner just to be safe. Not all scanners can catch everything out there. I like Spybot Search and Destroy, but there are others that are out there.

Yes, try disinfecting with a few other programs. If you still can’t get rid of the problems, you have two choices: (1) turn your problem over to a pro who knows how to fix these problems; or (2) reinstall the OS after backing up all your key data. The latter is my preference since it’s the only way you can be sure that your computer is clean of the problem.
