Conan O'Brien Thursday June 4

I was watching The Tonight Show on Hulu, and John Mayer Trio was the musical guest. He had the LA Childrens’ Choir as backup for his live performance of California Dreaming. Why would the kids be behind a plastic wall? Did anyone else notice that? What purpose would that serve?

I was just going to ask this question. It was weird, just like Paltrow’s greasy legs.

Paltrow’s Legs

I noticed her legs as well. At first I figured there were stockings involved, but I forgot to keep watching as the interview continued. These people have some strange children, though. Who would take a bath in a guest bedroom with doors unlocked?

I’m still really curious about the wall, however. It crossed my mind that he might’ve been afraid of getting sneezed on or something paranoid. School aged children, swine flu, and all that. I feel like that’s totally secondary to an acoustics answer, though.

I didn’t see the show but I’m guessing it would have to do with the acoustics and feedback and such. A lot of bands put their drummers behind glass walls in order to improve the sound. Just my guess.

Had they been singing an old Billy Joel song I would say it was a visual thing.

Maybe the kids were just really bad.

The screen is there to prevent the drums and other instruments from being picked up by the kids’ microphones, since they’re louder than the kids. Sometimes you’ll see the same sort of screen in front of a drummer so that the drums don’t bleed into the lead singer’s mic and any others.
