concentrated = focused?

I am seeing the word “concentrated” being used for “focused” relating to a person’s interest or attention.

I am particularly troubled by the expression “He looks very concentrated” that I have heard several times already on TV.

Is this proper english (it is in spanish, btw)?

No, I wouldn’t call it proper English usage. You can say “He looks like he’s concentrating”, but saying "He looks like he’s concentrated: sounds like you’re saying he’s partially dehydrated, like frozen orange juice. It just sounds ignorant to my ears.
