Concert tickets on eBay

NOTE: This is not a discussion on the legalities of selling concert tickets on Ebay which may or may not be in violation of local scalping laws.
So anyway. This past weekend, I bought tickets to the an Alison Krauss + Union Station concert to be held here in February 2005. I got to the box office about 45 minutes before it opened and was 6th in line. I was able to get great tickets (10th row orchestra center). All seats are $41.25. Not a bad deal considering when I saw them in 2001, the price was $37.50.

Out of curiosity, I checked eBay the same day and found tickets for this very show. Price range? $98.12 for a single ticket to $399 for a pair! All seats being offered are in the first four rows.

The venue has a tall stage. So people sitting in the first five rows will end up with whiplash by the evening’s end. At least they’ll get a good look up the noses of the performers, though.

I’m really just curious how many people who offer concert tickets at seemingly outrageous prices actually get what they are asking for.

I’m going to keep an eye on these auctions out of curiosity.
