I started taking Concerta last Friday in place of Provigil for my narcolepsy issues.
I quit taking it Tuesday because I was having some sexual issues with my girlfriend and that was unacceptable.
Today, I realized that I have very little memory of what has been going on in my life since last Friday. I remember a few scattered things, there are some hazy sections, and a lot of it is blank.
I’m pretty down about it, and a little scared. Anyone else ever had something like this happen to them?
Concerta is a stimulant, IANAD but it doesn’t sound like the kind of thing that would cause memory loss. I’ve had methylphenidate in several forms. Headaches, high blood pressure, inability to sleep sound like the kind of things you’d encounter.
I just did a quick Google search of “concerta” and “memory loss” and came back with all sorts of results. Suffice to say, you’re not the first to experience these problems.
Interesting, I googled ‘concerta memory loss’ and found a number of articles discussing the subject. Apparently it’s not that common of a side effect, this article says it occurs in 1.31% of people reporting side effects. Of course I knew that before, but I forgot.
On the other hand, it’s my experience that you can google “<any drug> <any symptom>” and find articles discussing it, if not legions of people swearing they suffer from it and clamoring for a class action lawsuit against <maker of <any drug>>. So a small dose of NaCl is not contraindicated.
After consulting with my friends, I’ve managed to piece together most of what happened this weekend, and with some prompting I remember much more of it than I thought I did.
Still doesn’t make me feel much better. It shouldn’t take me 15 minutes of hard thinking to remember I went to my grandparents and went skeet shooting.
