Just thought of one that should have been obvious to me since it was only a couple months ago. I saw ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett on his “Foxtrot at 50” tour, playing a mix of his solo stuff, the entire Genesis “Foxtrot” album, and a couple other classic Genesis songs as encores. It was fantastic! He’s got a really talented band backing him up.
Steve is a great guitarist, I love love love his solo on “Every Day”. Saw him at the San Jose Civic Auditorium in 1981.
Speaking of Genesis members gone solo, I saw Peter Gabriel’s first two tours. The first tour had “Dusty Rhodes” (aka Robert Fripp) on guitar. Also, Mike And The Mechanics in 1986
They played a free outdoor show about 1/4 mile from my apartment in Budapest back in 2003. I don’t know too much about King Crimson, but both Fripp and Belew there and it was pretty decent show.
The Hudson Brothers were rehearsing a song they were working on while we rode the elevator together. Acapella. Free front row. It was standing room only.
I saw King Sunny Ade & His African Beats at Ravinia (northshore suburbs of Chicago) 15-ish years ago. It was a double-bill with Kuti Femi & the Positive Force.
In terms of names of the backing bands, this was, by far, the best concert I’ve ever attended!
Yes, I did. I saw the Rolling Stones both nights. Road trip from San Antonio to Dallas. Stayed Fri.-Mon. Had tickets for Friday night, but we didn’t sit in our assigned seats. I could have touched Keith and Mick when they were on the ramp to the left of the stage where we sat.
Skipped going to Six Flags on Saturday to go again the next night. I think it was an added show because Friday night sold out in 20 mins the first time around. We bought tickets out front and sat in the same place. I am positive that Keith commented to Mick that we were there the night before. Also, went to the Hard Rock Cafe.
That was the first time I saw the Stones. I’ve seen them five times in three different states.
The first concert I went to at the Cotton Bowl was the 1980 Texxas Jam. They had to spray people with watering hoses it was so hot.
Yes. They had first aid tents down on the floor. The openers were April Wine, I think it was around noon. We checked out the floor and decided to go sit up high in the shaded area for a while.
I have too! Their 1994 performance in Albuquerque was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
The biggest ovation was given to an onstage lackey who had a bowl haircut and wore a 1970s leisure suit, and spent the whole time folding Tortelvis’ discarded towels into quarters. You had to be there, I guess.
