Concrete mixer trucks: The drums

As I noted in this link, I used to say “Joe Palooka” when I saw the plate bolted onto the side of the mixing drum on a concrete mixer truck. Fortunately, I don’t do that anymore; but I’d really like to know–what is the proper name for this plate, and what purpose does it serve? Thanks very much.

Could you post an image or something?

Gee dougie
I don’t know what its called either. Mine didn’t have one.
The only thing on the side of out trucks’ drums is a stencil.
Wow that must have be a dizzing effect:)

:singing:
Cement mixer, putty, putty.
Cement mixer, putty, putty.

We didn’t have a name for it either, but it’s used when it’s time to clean the drum. Rinsing at the end of the day only goes so far, and a couple three times a year you have to get inside the drum and chisel out the buildup, and you enter the drum through that cover. Once you got all the concrete chiseled out, you’d fire up the truck and rotate the drum to empty all the chunks out into the bucket of a front end loader. New gasket and resecure the hatch and you were ready to go again! I truly enjoyed driving the mixer trucks; I only wish it had paid better. $6.50 per hour just wasn’t hacking the mission.

Thanks, Vestal Blue.

My pleasure, Dougie!

Well Duh

I forgot about the hatch.
