Condenser Paper

Hey hobbiests…

In the “pennyweight” freeflight airplane modeling hobby there is a need for very light coverings for the model airplane’s superstructure, like tissue paper is used for other type model planes and kites.

There is a type of industrial paper known as “condenser paper”. It’s called this because it is primarily manufactured for use in the manufacture of the electronic component known as the “condenser” or “capacitor”.

My dilemma here is that I would like to locate a source for this paper that would sell to an individual in bulk. My brother is the hobbyist here, and I’m searching the Net for him for this stuff. He does not want to go to the hobby shops to get this stuff. They are gouging the hell out of the hobby public for this stuff. He’d like to be able to purchase some bulk for his own use and that of his flying club friends.

Any ideas?

Thanks…

There are apparently multiple types of condenser paper manufacturers. One of them has an SIC code of 2672. Do a search with “sic” and “2672”, and see what you come up with.

If that’s the wrong one, let me know. I’ll do a reverse look-up and see what other codes I find.

Hey DMC,

Using Copernic 2001 (simultaneosly searching numerous web-based search sites), I ran a search using that Standard Industry Code # 2672 and mostly received hits that showed the SIC index, but no manufacturers. I did a couple of exhaustive seaches yesterday too using “condenser paper” and “ultrathin paper” as the search variables, and still didn’t receive many manufacturer hits… one or two, if I remember correctly.

I know the stuff exists. These hobby shops must be buying it from somewhere, and electronic component manufacturers must get it from somewhere.

Thanks for your help, anyway!

I can’t find any wholesaler who would likely sell to the general public, but this link might at least let you do a bit of comparison shopping for the stuff.

Lots of info there! Thanks! I already passed the link on to my brother via AIM.

Thanks again!

PS: Being a bit anal about my grammar and spelling, I wanted to note that I had a slight synapse misfire when spelling the word “hobbyists” in the original post of this thread. Thank you for allowing this bit of O/C disorder to show through!
