I heard that today is a national day of mourning in the Netherlands in honor of the victims of flight MH-17, most of whom were Dutch and all of whom will be missed. I wish to voice my sympathy to the families and friends of all those who were aboard that airplane wherever they were from, wherever they were going.
I read something in the news yesterday that sort of put the scale of loss in perspective. If you look at the ratio of people lost to this disaster compared to 9/11, it’s of the same magnitude for The Netherlands. Not that the number of people lost should make a difference in these types of situations, but for such a small country, this is a significant incident. I understand and agree with them terming this a terroristic attack.
Thoughts are with all the friends and families who lost loved ones on that flight.
Condolences to all.
It’s the first national day of mourning in the Netherlands since the death of Queen Wilhelmina in 1962. I was watching some of the repatriation this morning on TV. The solemn and dignified ceremony in the Netherlands was in stark contrast to the uncaring and uncivilized treatment of the bodies at the crash site.
