Confederate base names going away

Secretary of Defense Agarn.

“Look, I think Fort Benedict rolls off the tongue. What’s the issue?”

Fort Jackson Lee. A two-fer in honor of, um, Sheila Jackson Lee.

“Mr Secretary, I don’t know why everybody says you’re so dumb!”

Forts Larry, Moe, and Curly more like.

Along the border at Niagara Falls…

Slowly I turned…

We should name these after one of the greatest heroes of the Confederacy, James Longstreet. If the people who were previously in favor of CSA names are all of a sudden not in favor, I’d like to see them explain why. It will be funny.

Am I missing a specific reason why they should hate him?

Lost Causers hate him, ostensibly for some contrived reason about how he lost the war, but ultimately because he spent postwar vocally advocating for black civil rights. He wasn’t the only one but he was the scapegoat for those types.

Longstreet got a lot of criticism after the war, partly because he changed sides and became a Scallawag, partly as a means of deflecting any criticism of Lee’s generalship, which was seen as akin to blasphemy.

Hum…

They can.

Ft. Moore is now Ft. Benning again.

As with Ft. Bragg, it is at least putatively not renamed after a Confederate general: Fred G. Benning - Wikipedia

It shall now be Fort Annette Benning to me. Not that I ever think about it, much less bring it up in conversation.

Pete Hegseth, like the rest of Trump’s sycophants, is a cowardly pile of dog shit. They know exactly what they are doing. What a garbage dump. What a sorry excuse for a human…

Trump told U.S. Army soldiers during a speech at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, “For a little breaking news, we are also going to be restoring the names to Fort Pickett, Fort Hood, Fort Gordon, Fort Polk, Fort A.P. Hill and Fort Robert E. Lee.”

As with the recent renaming of Fort Bragg and Fort Benning, Defense officials said Tuesday they selected service members with matching last names to rename the bases—ensuring the installations no longer officially bore names linked to the Confederacy.

So Trump is (once again) lying by saying they’re “restoring the names to …Fort A.P. Hill and Fort Robert E. Lee.”

Out of the millions of soldiers in US Army history surely there is another “Robert E. Lee”.

Well, c’mon. TFG had to be reminded that the Nazis were the bad guys in WWII by the German Chancellor.

Just think of how hard it must be for him to keep track of which side were traitors in the Civil War.
