Conflicting Reference Sources?

All,
I’m trying to find some examples of where official reference-type sources (like the ones you would use in a library) are in disagreement with one another.
What are some of the debates that have ended up with two (or more) conflicting reference sources to the same question?

I’m about to go look up the origins of the phrase “Davy Jones Locker”.

Since I work in a library, I can tell you this happens a lot. Dictionaries are prime candidates for this, especially for etymologies.

You just have to make a judgment as to which one you think is more reliable.
