Congrats Scott Brown! Massachusetts Has A Great New Senator!

Oooo, flawless as far as anyone can tell, super down to earth, and very good looking. Well, that’s novel. He ought to hook up with Sarah Palin. Every redneck in the country would crap his pants with excitement.

Haven’t we seen this before? California, during the last recession, booted out Gray Davis, and voted in Arnold.

It is the economy, stupid.

I love that that’s a point in his favor. I mean, it’s no winking.

He’s going to turn very moderate within 1 year of the his next election. Very moderate. But hooray for elections! He won clean and fair and congrats to him. I’m very surprised that Uncle Teddy didn’t ever consider and actually groom a successor, Coakley comes off as rather arrogant.

You’re slightly off the mark there with that link. For example, Chicago has approximately 3 million residents, while there are roughly 8 million in the greater Chicagoland area and collar counties. More than half of the people in this area are from what they would consider ‘small towns’. Boston, NYC, LA, no different…

The issues faced by voters aren’t ones faced by people IN cities, they’re issues faced by people NEAR cities, who drive pick-up trucks and SUV’s and go to the mall. The ‘small-town values’ thing is here for good.

Republicans aren’t interested in bipartisan solutions.

Martha?

For certain definitions of “bipartisan”, such as “I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking.”

Whatever happens, the best part of this is the slap in the face to Obama.

Where’s the real problem: the kittens, or people who wrong-headedly persist in trying to herd unherdable animals?

“There may well be a landslide and they have a perfect right to kick us out. That is democracy. That is what we have been fighting for. Hand me my towel.” - Winston Churchill

Conrgatulations to the new Senator, and hooray democracy.

Well, they can still get HCR passed by just having the House vote on the Senate bill as is, and addressing any issues they may have with it later on. At this point that’s probably the easiest and smartest course of action.
But having seen the Democrats in action over the past year, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they still found some way to fuck even that up.

Why should Massachusans (or whatever they’re called) care? They’ve got a much farther-reaching healthcare plan than anything in the bills that passed the House and Senate. “We got ours, screw you” seems to be the order of the day here.

So he lied? Ran away from his base? This is a pro how?

So?

Who he pimped out during his acceptance speech tonight. Classy!

And any female politician who had done this during college would never get elected beyond a city council. Hooray for patriarchal double standards!

And therefore qualified to serve in the U.S. Senate.

Yes, because none of that has anything to do with why this man should have won this election. Not a single bit of it.

Well, the margin was close- not Frankenclose, but close enough to demonstrate a deep ambivalence toward both parties. And there isn’t the usual Kennedy mythology in place to drive the usual votes. This is something like the Franken/Minnesota thing, only with an unambiguous margin of victory.

And he does have experience in the state legislature. And making Colonel isn’t trivial.

And they did elect Romney, so it isn’t impossible to elect a Republican in Massachussetts.

It’s 2:00am and I’m bored so I’m watching Deutche Welle and even they did a report on Brown.

I am pleased with this news.

'Atta boy! Once more, this time with substance!

Wonderful result! All credit to Brown and his campaign managers. (With a shout out also to the sterling contributions of Coakley, Obama and the Democrats in general - he couldn’t have won it without them.)

I have to agree with the latter half; the Massachusetts Democrats and Coakley’s campaign especially did an apparent textbook “How to look like you don’t care about the election” move. Great job, idiots. Can’t wait for them to blame anyone but themselves and learn nothing from the experience.

Hell yeah! Hopefully, this means that the ghost of Ted Kennedy has finally been exorcized from Congress.
