Congress will kick the can down the road on health care

Yes, you have, by every vote you have ever cast. Every Senator and Representative and President you voted for. And we still don’t have UHC. You lost.

Voting for people is not the same as voting for issues, you simplistic fucktard. The American people have, as yet, not voted for or against UHC.

And for fuck’s sake, stop saying “you lost”. This isn’t over yet, and it won’t end with your triumph.

And now you’re an idiot. We don’t vote for issues, we vote for representatives, dipstick.

Political dynamics change. Because there hasn’t been UHC (yet) does not mean this state of affairs is perpetual. The current president is certainly pushing for health care reform. Unless he totally loses credibility he is going to continue to do so. The house and senate are controlled by the Dems…and it doesn’t look to me as if that state of affairs is going to change any time soon.

While I doubt that UHC is going to happen in the first year of Obama’s presidency, I seriously doubt that nothing will happen in his entire 8 years (assuming he gets re-elected). There is going to be SOME kind of reform.

Whether that’s a good thing or a bad one remains to be seen…but I think it’s wishful thinking to think that nothing at all will happen in the current political environment.

Carol is somewhat in the ballpark of correct that the elected Congress has not yet felt sufficient political pressure to put health care ahead of lobbying interests, but the majority of voters do support it. When some of these Dems start feeling the squeeze from primary challenges on their left because of this issue, we’ll start seeing some change.

Popular opinion matters, but unfortunately, it’s not the only thing that matters. Democracy still has to battle against moneyed interests.

I trust you are not going to convey that tired old lefty myth about how financial concerns have disproportionate power that often thwarts progress?
