Oh, and in the Pit version of this thread Fear Itself mentions that she and her office have been the target of right wing gunfire before. My expectation is that this was an assassination, although I’m sure that in public the Republicans will cry a few crocodile tears while they gloat in private.

According to Wikipedia, she’s not all that conservative. She’s pro-choice, pro-alternative energy, anti-No Child Left Behind. She does have some heterodox positions regarding gun rights and immigration, but the latter is understandable given that her district is on the US-Mexico border.
Interesting. Fox News said she was pro-life (I guess they lied, which is not a shock) and tried to paint her as a conservative (emphasizing her immigration and gun stances).
They also didn’t meantion (at least from what I saw) that she’s had her office shot up before after voting for Health Care Reform.

Uncool. Here’s hoping that it wasn’t politically motivated. That’s the last thing partisanship needs.

If so, how very pathetic of them. Are there any instances in recent US history where an elected official was ever threatened with assassination for being *anti-*immigration? I’m gonna be totally gobsmacked if there are.

Fox had to make a tough call. Spin the story as “Brave conservative martyred by probable liberal” or “Socialist gets what she deserved”? They must have decided to go with the former in case some of the bystanders who got shot were Republicans.
msnbc is reporting that she has not passed and is in surgery, very grave condition. this report is from hospital and that she and 5 other are in very critical condition.
Does anyone really think this anything but tea partier rabble? Her opposition had shooting parties as fund raisers, with the victim’s visage for target practice. Michelle Bachmann and her ilk warned that if they lost the election they’d be “armed and dangerous.”
