I missed this. We would all welcome her if she changed her views. We simply said it was about as likely as quantum fluctuations birthing a whole new universe and that it would take years or, more likely, decades, for anyone to actually believe it was occurring. In the meantime, she’s more than welcome to vote with us 100% of the time, but that’s just not going to happen.
From PG’s link:
“I say, this is a party that’s got room for Marjorie Taylor Greene, if she wants to come over,” Raskin said, to a mixed reaction from the crowd. “We got room for anybody who wants to stand up for the Constitution and for the Bill of Rights today.”
On my phone, I’d have to click the link just to see where it points/leads.
A dastardly practice, it is.
(I still don’t know where the link goes.)
On my phone, if I long-press it, the URL pops up and shows it’s \https://jamieraskin.com/raskin-mamdani-endorsement/
Breaking news, no link yet. MTG is resigning from Congress on Jan 5th.
Found a link.
I wonder why?
She’s hated by the left and by MAGA now.
Joy. Now we get to see what even worse nutjob gets elected from that district.
I’m gonna guess she asked Jeffries if she could keep her seniority and committee seats if she defected, and he told her to take a flying shit.
I assume Trump is forcing her to
“Loyalty should be a two-way street and we should be able to vote our conscience and represent our district’s interest, because our job title is literally ‘representative,’” she said.
I hope she emphasized the words “should be” heavily, while dodging the hungry, hungry leopard.
Well, ever since Trump un-endorsed her, she’s gotten death threats from the right.
People on the left have hated her for years; no death threats.
It’s not a “both sides” thing.
She does say in her four page statement on X that Trump was going to have her primaried (while saying that she could have won anyway). She also says that she feels like a “battered wife,” and my impression is that she thinks the battering is more done by insufficiently populist Republicans than Democrats.
When she finds the American people to be more or her side than at present, “I’ll be here by their side to rebuild it.” I’m pretty sure she means that she would run for President if she thought she could win.
I don’t even rule out her being the next Harold Stassen, a perennial GOP presidential candidate who never got the nomination.
Her statement on X suggests that she remains to the right of her party, so this seems unlikely to me. But if you are correct, I’m pretty sure it will leak shortly.
It’s always struck me that Greene had little interest in actually being a legislator, and doing the work. It’s pretty clear to me that her primary motivation is to build her own personal brand, and being in Congress gave her a bully pulpit to keep herself visible on social media.
I suspect she simply saw the writing on the wall, and staying past the holidays – much less trying to run for re-election against a Trump-endorsed opponent – wasn’t going to do anything to build her brand.
Her political career is over. Publicly butting heads with Trump was suicide.
She very very badly miscalculated, and in the end it will be over nothing.
So she can devote her full time to her 2028 Presidential bid?
Eh, I dunno. Everyone knows who she is now. She can make appearances on TV, sell books, sell late-night scam garbage like Mike Huckabee, and so on. She probably has it made for the rest of her life, financially.
If you mean risking her political career itself in fighting with Trump, I agree with you though.
She does have an education and graduated with a degree in Business Administration (I had the same major in college so I know what’s involved there), so while she hasn’t successfully run a business in the past, she probably knows enough to at least manage her own finances. And she already would have contacts who she can leverage to keep the money coming in. She’ll probably be fine, as long as she doesn’t decide to amp up the crazy schtick.
ETA: It’s kind of funny, she will “go” pretty much 5 years exactly from the time of the OP of this thread. That took way too long IMHO.
Oh for sure, she made a ton of dough when she was in congress and won’t be hurting for money anytime soon.
I suppose she’ll do the Bill Maher circuit or something. She’s a perfect enlightened centrist now.
