Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene MUST GO

If I believed the conspiracy theories that Orange Menace has damaging dirt on many allies, this is what blackmailing a new enemy out of the way would look like.

She could have stayed, & worked for her own redemption.

Now….?

It’s the people in Georgia that are disenfranchised. It doesn’t sound like Green has seriously been representing their interests and working to solve problems.

Let’s hope someone less partisan gets elected in the State’s special election.

MTG is known for being laser-focused.

Now she’ll get a pension.

Yes; as noted, she has clearly using her House seat as a platform to build her own reputation (notoriety?), and seems to take little interest in actual governance. Hell, during her first term, she was stripped of all her committee assignments a few weeks after being seated, due to her incendiary rhetoric; as that’s where a lot of actual work gets done in Congress, she essentially did no work for two years. She’s back on committees now, but I’m not sure that it’s really changed things much, other than making her attend meetings sometimes.

Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha! Pull the other leg; it’s got bells on it.

She represents one of the most conservative districts in the country. I will guarantee you that whoever replaces her will be a far-right MAGA.

When Trump was sworn in, there were many Republican members of the House who declared that it was their responsibility to push Trump’s agenda through. It wasn’t their responsibility to work with Trump or to even push their shared agenda, but to specifically push his his agenda. For all intents and purposes, MAGA = Republican. When you have a dispute with Trump you have a dispute with all of MAGA. The party will turn against her if he says so.

I put this question to both Gemini and ChatGPT. ChatGPT found one from 1934:

New York Times: BECK TO GIVE UP SEAT IN CONGRESS; Says That Being 1/400 Part of Rubber Stamp No Longer Appeals to Him.

However, Greene may be the first to ever resign in a public dispute with a president of her own party.

Someone might object that Beck more resigned in a dispute with congressional leadership than the President. But Greene also focused on congressional leadership. This is from her resignation letter:

A corner case, but Adam Kinzinger – one of two Republicans who served on the House January 6th Committee – chose to not run for re-election in 2022, after being vilified by Trump (and, by extension, the rest of his party) for his participation in the investigation. It’s only a corner case, because (a) Trump was not the sitting president at the time, and (b) Kinzinger didn’t resign and step away in mid-term, as Greene is.

(The other GOP member on that committee, Liz Cheney, who was similarly vilified, lost her re-election bid in 2022, as she was primaried by a Trump-supporting candidate.)

Still a bit of a space case.

This is a good point:

Excellent metaphor.

The Guardian’s political insights are very good. I agree that Republican cowardice enables Trump to do whatever he desires.

Link Marjorie Taylor Greene could have led the anti-Trump resistance but the mob boss got his way | Marjorie Taylor Greene | The Guardian
.

Not incorrect, but there’s no particularly novel political insight on the part of the Guardian here. By the end of his first term (and certainly by 2022, when Kinzinger and Cheney had been run out of Congress), Trump had completely co-opted the GOP. Blind, vocal loyalty to Trump is now table stakes for being a Republican politician, and this has been a known fact for years.

Is it really disenfranchisement if they gleefully, repeatedly choose it? Everywhere else in the country may think she is a lunatic who does nothing but damage her constituency, but as I said earlier, they actually love her there. I’d call it voluntary disenfranchisement - but then if it’s enfranchising what they are actually voluntarily, enthusiastically, repeatedly choosing, how is it actually disenfranchising?

Marjorie Taylor Greene - Elections

In 2020 she won with 74.7% of the vote
In 2022 she won with 65.9% of the vote
In 2024 she won with 64.4% of the vote.

Given TFG’s horrible track record on candidates he backs, MTG could have survived a TFG back challenger in the Republican primaries. It just would have been nasty.

And potentially dangerous more than just politically.

Thing is, most members who chose to leave simply announce they will not run again so why not just sit out the last year of the
term? Because for her at this point that would still mean a whole very unenjoyable year of being in a constant slapfight with Trump and the MAGAs over her specific issues, all for perhaps the small satisfaction of a parting “told ya so” if the GOP blows the midterms.

It could be disenfranchisement if it’s gerrymandered. They don’t look gerrymandered on a map, and I don’t recall and can’t find any controversy about redistricting in Georgia. However, Georgia is around 50/50 in voting, but has 9 R representative and 5 Ds.

There is 1 competitive district, held by a D. Two semi-competitive districts held by an R with a margin between 10 and 20. Which is safe but not immune. But all of the D safe districts won by more than 40 points differential, whereas the other GOP districts won by more than 20 but less than 40. 20 is what I would aim for if I were asked to do a gerrymander, since it would make the seat nearly unlosable unless you nominate someone exceptionally unlikeable which only happens once every few few years nationwide.

Googling Colton Moore, he looks to be someone we will be hearing from again. This is from his own web site:

In the news, two years earlier::

MTG’s net worth is about 25 million maybe she decided that is plenty! Down the road she can alway come back to the casino!

P.S. on possible MJT successor Colin Moore – his Machine Gun Shootout is currently underway, or at least finishing up:
