Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene MUST GO

If I may offer an opinion -

This reminds me of the Sarah Palin argument from all those years ago when no one had heard of her. Please remember that I have always been a supporter of John McCain and can remember when he was first running office in AZ.

Beyond any shadow of a doubt Palin was FAR, FAR too uninformed to be the Vice President of the United States. Her lack of qualifications is stunning in retrospect. But that does not mean she deserved the descriptor I most often heard applied to her- she was not an idiot. For a suburban housewife she shes competent enough. She could grocery shop and make kids lunches, hold down a job and probably change a flat tire. Palin could keep a calendar and showed up for appointments on time despite her complete lack of understanding around matters of policy foreign and domestic.

In a like manner, MTG and Boebert seem likely to be bright enough to exist as a low information citizen showing up shouting slogans they read on bumper stickers (perhaps because even those simple thoughts are beyond their ability to arrive at independently). The problem is that they have been elected to be the leaders of those kind of people.

If we look at it from the other end-- they are members of congress who have access to proprietary and occasionally secret information (at least when they serve on committees). That is why there are rules against using that information for personal gain. But even being in that rarefied atmosphere and gaining all that inside information – they still spout the stupid, illogical “ideas” they do. Rather than learning and seeking to guide their constituents to better lives thru better policies, they use their power and influence to consolidate that power and keep the crowd with their torches and pitchforks on their side.

To take this further, it is the logical conclusion of those who vote for who they would rather have a beer with than the smartest or most competent candidate. I personally don’t want a candidate “just like me”. I would rather have the smartest, hardest working wonk making the sausage or leading the department. Those people who loved Trump specifically because “he is not a politician” are particularly misguided in my opinion. He is not a surgeon either, but I don’t want him cutting into my body (I very certainly do not want him passing the gas before my surgery!). He is not a pilot which is a major reason I don’t want him flying the plane!! But somehow the fact that he has zero experience as a politician is supposed to be a good thing. History has proven that NOT to be the case!

The idea that Boebert and Greene are just like us is exactly why they are unqualified for the jobs they hold. They are better qualified to be the ones in the back of the school board meetings shouting about things they do not understand until someone who DOES know what the hell they are talking about stands up and explains reality so those who really care about what is best for the students can override the uninformed who only care about an abstract idea they can’t really grasp completely.

I am not a huge fan of AOC, but I admire her for being well informed (whenever I have heard her speak), for doing for others- even outside of her own district, and for truly understanding complex situations that have to balance the concerns of many points of view even if she can be surprised by unfamiliar appliances.(*) She is certainly smart enough to do her job and shows every sign of working diligently to perform the best she can in that role. It is also to her credit that she seems to consider more than one point of view as she does those things- that she tempers her views within a larger context than her own district. I am not sure the same could be said the other women mentioned above.

(*) I had never heard this story about the disposal but it reminds me of a section of the Richard Hooker book M-A-S-H Goes To Maine. Some backwoods, and possibly inbred family brings one of their young to the new hospital for a much needed surgery but spend most of the time while he is in the O.R. marveling at the flush toilet - - something they had never seen before. Quaint.

Yes exactly- that is what I mean. But only part of what I mean.

There is a similar scene in Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath.

Meaning no disrespect toward your mother (or mine who did the same thing year after year), scraps with a leathery texture like potato and citrus peelings are the worst things to put down a garbage disposal (I understand in Canada they are called a Garburator). It is even recommended that you put citrus peelings down the disposal on occasion because the mild acid helps keep it clean and it leaves a fresh pleasant scent. But you must do extremely small portions at a time, and run them down the instant they come off the rest of the fruit. Both potato skins and citrus peelings get tough and leathery pretty damn quick and if it takes you an hour to peel all of your potatoes, dice them and place them on the stove to boil for later mashing, all while cooking nine other dishes, by then they might resemble elephant skin and not rip to shreds they way they must for the appliance to work properly.

Last year, I got home from a tough (and rare) day of outdoor work and left the small cooler I used as a lunchbox to be dealt with later. At the end of the next day I had the peelings of a few tangerines in there so I just ran them down the disposal. That weekend I had to take the thing apart to see what was causing a problem. Those citrus hides were just as tough as a catcher’s mitt; they were the exact same size and shape as when I put them in there even though they had somehow made it through the mechanism and were trapped in the narrow outlet pipe. It was the same many times over the years after a holiday meal except the culprit was usually potato peelings. (Side note: Boy do I miss that generation passing!! My mother and her sister would both make huge pans of mashed potatoes and we still managed to finish them before midnight!! They cooked one pound each for myself, my brothers, the male cousins uncles and grandfathers, plus a half pound for every two wives or female siblings. If you waited until midnight for your last plateful you had to resort to butter and salt because all of the gravy was gone by then. Good times!)

And now I fully understand that I have become that old guy who sits you down and tells you what the world was like when he was your age. I will try to be more brief from here on out.

I have not read that book for decades, I must have a copy around here someplace. If not I can get one from the library. Thank you for mentioning this, I do not remember it from that source.

They’re in some kind of encampment somewhere around Bakersfield, and there are flush toilets. Pa mentions that he’s seen them before in the Big City, but the kids had never seen one.

I know what you meant but the end of your sentence conjured up an image in my mind I truly wish was not there.

So you were probably around her age when you had one in an apartment. Did it “scare the daylights” out of you? I’m guessing not.

She said something silly, but then doubled down and stupidly posted a video about it.

Imagine having to cape up for MTG just to save face in front of the libs…

And here’s a clip where Bert feels silly.

So in conclusion, having proved that AOC or Bert can be silly, everyone should please just stop being so mean to Marjorie who is smart not like everyone says.

Whoever said MTG was smart?

I didn’t say anyone said MTG was smart. I said they were all being mean to her and calling her silly. Which is really super unfair when other people like AOC and Bert are sometimes silly. And nobody is mean to them.

Pretty much a very large portion of The Right by way of not calling out her idiocy.

So just like a very large portion of The Left by way of not calling out AOC for her idiocy? Even the crypt-keeper seems afraid of crossing her.

Marge wrote a follow up to her Gazpacho speech.

Do we slip up in prepared remarks, though? Really?

It is so absurd - attempting to compare public health measures to roving executioners, but instead referencing cold soup - as to make it seem like performance art.

But if you look at her life history, she’s basically a cross fit groupie who got into zany radical right wing promoting. And in her neck of the woods, apparently that’s all you need to get to go to Washington and…well, I guess watch other congress members go to work.

What does she do all day, anyway, since she’s not on any committees?

Pander to her bouillabaisse.

No soup for you!

Brilliant!

And lucrative, I imagine. For Marge, I mean. This whole politics thing is just a ruse to get richer, I guess. She plays no part in governance or law making. Does she even get security briefings of any kind?

This. Waste disposals are really not that common in Australia. I’ve never had one anywhere I’ve lived. Very occasionally I’ve stayed in a holiday apartment that has one. I don’t know about in the US but here the switch is usually just a standard light switch style. For safety reasons it’s always well away from the sink.

You are poking around in the unfamiliar kitchen, you flip this (apparent) light switch, there is a sudden, rattling “RRKRRRRKK!!!” from the sink, it makes you jump.

Add in a tiny bit of being melodramatic for the sake of a funny story and I have had exactly the same experience as AOC.

It really is an extremely odd hill you are dying on here. In fact, without question, if you asked me whether:

  • AOC’s tweet and video, or
  • your attempts to argue that her tweet and video make her seem silly

made you or her look sillier, there is no question it is the former. Let it go, dude.

Not mine, sadly. I can’t remember where I saw it.

Marjorie should be replaced with Bert. Or Grover, really.
