Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene MUST GO

“This tastes funny!”

just popping in to say CNN is using a similar headline

If they were so inclined (which, of course, they’re not), how could the GOP get rid of her?

They could follow the lead of one of their key allies and invite her to examine the windows in a tall building.

They can’t, really (defenestration aside). She won by a staggering ~30 points in her district, where she has an iron lock. Unless she goes to jail for something she will be with us until she hits term limits. Which is six full terms.

Then she’ll run for something else. Might as well get used to her spouting treason and conspiracy noise until you are in your grave :expressionless:.

They could vote to expel her from the House.

Would not even take a majority vote - I think 2/3 would suffice.

They could simply run another Republican in her place, who would likely get in.

i thought the US Supreme Court invalidated term limits for members of Congress

On quick check, you are correct. Even worse - she’s never going to have to struggle to get elected again :anguished:.

So it could be done. Assuming every Democrat wants her out, you’d only need a few dozen GOP reps to agree.

But according to that link, in 2021, a resolution to expel her was introduced, but even Pelosi wasn’t on board. I wonder why not, and if things might be different now.

i believe that pelosi would allow the vote to take away committee seats, but wanted the republicans to step up and expel her. would not do breath holding waiting for that.

Up until a Supreme Court ruling in 1969 Congress could also refuse to seat, which was fairly common in the post-bellum South the same way expulsion from Congress for supporting the Confederacy was common during the Civil War.

From 1869 to 1900, the House of Representatives refused to seat over 30 Southern Democratic candidates declared the winner by their states. In some cases they weren’t seated because the House Elections Committee concluded that fraud, violence, or intimidation had been used against black voters, or, in some cases, that the election statutes of the states themselves were unconstitutional.

Um…

Yes, it would take some Republicans to step up to the plate and discover that they actually had an iota of moral fibre, a shred of decency and/or an interest in preserving the country over their own miserable self-interest.

Of course that won’t happen. But theoretically that’s the route that could be taken to get Empty Greene out of Congress.

Until … fast-forward to summer of ‘24. Trump has been convicted of various insurrection-related felonies and is not the presidential candidate. Polls show Republicans in all but the reddest states and districts getting pummeled due to voters’ increasing disgust with the party’s anti-democratic actions. 74 Pubs running in purplish districts see a way to establish themselves as not-quite-as-traitorous as the rest of the party – vote to expel Empty Greene (who has since polluted the web with lots more of this schtick)! Her district will be pissed off, but what are they gonna do, vote for the Dems?

OK, fantasy hour has now concluded.

What if her voters were to become enlightened and give up racism and Trumpasslickerism? That’s possible, right?

Similar to how it is possible to have all the air in a room end up on one side due to random chance, yes.

Maybe a generation from now :face_with_diagonal_mouth:. Northwestern Georgia in general is probably a lost cause anytime soon. Barring a Watchmen scenario, maybe (c’mon unifying alien invasion!). Everything changes in time, but considering the power of incumbency I’ll consider it a moral victory if twenty years from now she is only winning elections by 5-10 points instead of 30.

And I want a unicorn and a billion trillion dollars, but that isn’t going to happen either.

Screw the Republicans. This isn’t a case of a congressman saying something impolitic that causes controversy and pearl-clutching, or of one getting caught with their hand in the public cookie jar. We are talking about treason. Nothing less. She needs to be hauled out of the House chamber, preferably in handcuffs.

They could cut her off. No support, no committees, no RNC campaign contributions etc.
But they won’t, because they have no guts, no ethics, no sense of decorum etc.

You are talking about the GOP cutting off MTG? Sorry but that isn’t going to happen unless she…well I can’t think of anything she could say that she hasn’t said yet that would get them to cut her off.

Especially as it appears she’s going to be a part of the GOP leadership in the new Congress.
