I don’t remember where I heard it first (and as I type this out it feels like an urban legend), but allegedly they used to store gunpowder in churches, because they knew that God wouldn’t smite a church. Of course, the spire tended to be the tallest object in the area, so in actuality, God smote the shit out of churches, blowing up a lot of gunpowder (and churches), but then the heathens convinced them to put lighting rods on them - hey, presto - no more buildings blowing up.
But… but… If you’ve got churches of different denominations and only one such church follows the One True Faith, then of course God will be smiting the heck out of all the heretics!
