Am I the only person who hates Connan O’brien? He’s ugly, unfunny, and doesn’t seem to try. I don’t get all the love. I don’t want to get it. Just a thread for others who hate the fire headed giant.
Dear RockytheflyingS, you are new here but my advice is for you to duck and run, fast.
Although I strongly agree with you, the SDMB has the ONLY fans of Conan (all 18 of them), and they are armed and dangerous.
Run - fast.
I don’t hate Conan, but I’ve never gotten the love (even while feeling he got a raw deal from NBC).
Preference in order, best to worst (thought I don’t regularly watch any of them any more):
Ferguson
Fallon
Kimmel
Letterman
O’Brien
Chelsea Handler
Leno
I thought he was a crybaby over the NBC thing. The best is she went to a new network and did the same thing to George Lopez. So, he’s a hypocrite.
Spreads my flaps and flies.
Connan O’brien is a total cunt. Conan O’Brien, however, is a great and funny staple of late night TV. If you see Connan, tell him he can fuck off – meanwhile, I’ll be watching Conan.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say I hate him, but I don’t find him funny in the least. He seems to just grimace and make strange noises and expects that to make people laugh. For those that find him hilarious, more power to you; I just don’t get it.
I haven’t watched him since my collage days, but I adored the hell out of him back then. Has his quality declined much in the last 5 or so years?
But how do you feel about CoCo?
I do love the way he laid that sucker down on his final show while Will Ferrell took his best stab at Ronnie Van Zant.
Yeah, I know, this is supposed to be a Conan hate thread, but :p. I don’t hate him.
“ugly” by whose standards?
if there’s one thing I totally fucking despise about US culture, it’s the notion that one has to be flawlessly beautiful/handsome in order to be worth anything. this culture of starfucking is reprehensible and has to be destroyed.
I, too, haven’t watched him since then. I remember back in college 98-02, saying that he would never make it out of the late night slot since he seemed to cater to college kids who were up plenty late to watch him then.
Anyways, I don’t watch his show (but I don’t watch any late shows). However, his twitter feed is pretty funny, but you still have to like that brand of humor.
I find his show more-or-less unwatchable, but that’s because I completely loathe the “couch and desk” talk show format. I think he’s a funny enough performer, but I only really like him when he shows up in other places.
He had the chance to do anything at all in his TBS show. He had the wildly appreciative and loyal audience, the opportunity, and the support from the network. He had nothing to lose and everything to gain by breaking new ground.
Instead, his show is a pale copy of everything he did earlier and better. He made himself irrelevant. It’s baffling. He tossed his career away for nothing.
I don’t hate him, and I’ll watch when he has someone on I’m particularly interested in. So I’ve seen him often enough to know there’s nothing new there.
Craig Ferguson was genuinely new for a few years, but the past couple of years have been strictly repetition, even after the move to the new studio gave him the chance to crack it all open again. He’ll replace Letterman in a couple of years. Will anyone care?
The only thing people rally, truly, deeply care about in a gigantic way is some poster coming in and starting a hate thread about somebody whose name they can’t spell. That enrages them.
I watched him when he finally got his new show. I’m not sure why since I really hated him with a passion when he was on late nights. I think part of it was the pity factor since even though I didn’t like him I really did think he got snaked by NBC–and I was something of a lukewarm Leno fan so go figure on that score too. Another part was that I assumed that he would have to change his brand of humor to some extent to mesh with the TBS demographic and also because for some reason I had this idea that a lot of the gags he’d previously used were considered intellectual property of NBC and so he couldn’t use some of that crap.
As it turned out, I did actually like him and started recording his shows. Of course I never watched anything past the monologue and opening bits, but that’s all I ever watch regardless of who it is. Then when Andy Richter came back, that really seemed to bump the show up a notch.
After that though, I’m not sure what happened. I just lost interest I guess. I can’t say he started to suck or anything like that although I do remember thinking a lot of monologues were real yawners. Maybe there was more audience participation stuff. I really hate crap like that. IDK. I might actually have to give it another shot.
I read somewhere that he was thought of as one of the funniest of the Simpsons writers. He’s responsible for writing “Marge vs. the Monorail”, considered one of the best episodes. (From Wikipedia, “Along with this episode, he has sole writing credits on ‘New Kid on the Block,’ ‘Homer Goes to College,’ and ‘Treehouse of Horror IV,’ on which he wrote the episode wraparounds.”)
I don’t find him funny. Think he screwed Leno, and then Lopez. I mildly enjoy Leno and Lopez’s shows. Triumph the dog is hilarious and an exception.
Most people would find him unattractive. I don’t think ugly people should be put to death, but I do believe if you want people to look at you as part of your job, you know a job that including having a camera in your face , you should be mildly attractive. I have silly notions like that. Just as I like fat people, but I wouldn’t get a fat guy teaching a class at my gym.
More of a didn’t care enough about how it’s spelled to google it. I also don’t want Conan O’Brien on my google history. Another reason to hate him. Stupid name.
I actually like Lopez Tonight a lot. That shocked me, because I never like The George Lopez Show at all. I don’t hate him, because of that. I never understood the Conan hype and then the crybaby shit went on for what? 2 years? It felt like it.
Oh? I suppose you can quote this nonexistent “most people.”
well, I hope you actually enhance your intelligence once you graduate from middle school.
