I’ve read about women who didn’t know they were pregnant - they had periods, didn’t notice much weight gain, etc. Years ago, there was a few of them on “Oprah” talking about their experiences.
So I’m wondering what are the consequences to the fetus if someone gets pregnant while taking the birth control pill - and if she doesn’t KNOW she’s pregnant, and she continues to take the pill.
Will the hormones in the Pill affect the uterine lining/placenta, and the baby’s development?
It’s quite embarrassing that I’m a 33-year-old woman and I don’t know the proper terminology for all of this - obviously I’ve never had kids!
PS - to my S/O - this is out of PURE CURIOSITY - no need to panic!!!
hey i’m in my 30’s too and i’ve often wondered the same thing.
the pill can be tricky, sometimes i skip a period or it starts early and what if i was preg and just didn’t know:confused:
Birth control pills are just synthetic versions of hormones that are present during pregnancy. That’s pretty much how they work, you know–they trick your body into thinking it’s pregnant, so it doesn’t need to release more eggs and build up the endometrium. IANAD, but I can’t imagine that having a little extra estrogen and progesterone running around would harm the embryo/fetus once it’s implanted.
Maybe it has a small chance of causing a miscarriage. IIRC, the “morning after” pill is an over dose of birth control pills. Maybe the combination of the hormones when you’re pregnant, plus the hormones of the pill can possibly cause an “overdose” of the hormones?
But it has to be a real small chance, right? I mean lots of women will continue to take their pills until they miss that period, then take a pregnancy test, and then have a no-problem pregnancy.
