Consider a $10 gift to yourself or your family

A call from one of my customers this afternoon- they had a fire in their home last weekend. How bad? Most of the roof is gone. Ironic, in that the dwelling has a complete burglary and fire protection system covering the basement and both floors, but no protection for the attic, where the fire started. Granted, the NFPA doesn’t require smoke detectors in attics, but what’s $10 compared to the value of your home? Wishing everyone a fire-safe holiday.

I would be concerned that if I gave someone a smoke detector and it malfunctioned I could get sued, let them buy their own dam smoke detectors, hell they are only $10.

While our overly litigious society is beyond refute, your logic precludes the giving of practically anything. No appliances-might cause fire. No exercise equipment-weld might break resulting in injury. No books-might cause emotional distress to the reader… c’mon.
