Thank You!

What you have so graciously provided is actually some of the unsuccessful Whig nominees for president of these United States.

Examples of unsuccessful Whig vice presidential nominees include:

1844 Theodore Frelinghuysen
1852 William Alexander Graham

The remainder of the list I will leave as an exercise for the original poster. Please include the relevant information on the relationship between the Whig party and the American and Constitutional Union parties.

This is the worst list in the history of lists. The Whig Party didn’t exist in 1832.

Damn Wikipedia. Now I can’t find the link.

The unsuccessful Whig VP candidate in 1836 was Francis Granger–yes, the same Francis Granger who recovered from his defeat to serve as William Henry Harrison’s Postmaster General, and whose legacy is now being debated in the other thread.

Just to defy the odds, I not only took a look at this thread, I posted in it. So there. Ha!

Yeah, but William Rufus King got a blow job.

Here is a list of Liberian presidents and veeps. Note that all such officeholders were True Whigs from the Gardiner-Russell tandem’s accession to power in 1878 until Samuel Doe seized power in 1980 after President Tolbert was executed and Vice-President Warner fled the country. Also note that Liberia has had two “Grover Clevelands”, as Joseph Jenkins Roberts and James Spriggs-Payne each enjoyed non-consecutive tenures of office. Finally, check out the dude who served as veep for Alfred F. Russell (yes, the same Russell who had previously been Gardiner’s running mate) in 1883 and '84! And you thought the USA was the only country to ever have a Whiggy John Tyler a heartbeat away from assuming the mantle of the Chief Executive…

I think I just felt a tremor.

Was it good for you, too?

Can I buy you lunch?
