Oh, dang! Thought he was a basketball or football player.
I mean, I really don’t follow team sports (as if I have to spell that out).

I’ve long thought no one on the Dope exists, except for me.
All this time I’ve been debating a random collection of quarrelsome electrons.
Are you positive?
He is mostly known as a basketball player. Many consider him the best basketball player of all time.
But he also had a passion for baseball, and played it in college (alongside basketball). He went professional as a basketball player, winning multiple championships. He briefly took a break during his basketball career (possibly somewhat due to his father’s murder) and tried his hand at playing baseball. He did so at the minor league level (which was a bit unusual, an internationally-famous legendary basketball player at the lower levels of professional baseball) then returned to basketball a bit more, before finally retiring for good.
You’re not a dog. I’m almost certain of that.
But – in the interests of hedging my bets …
Who’s a g’boy? Huh? Who’s a g’boy? You are. YOU’RE a g’boy!
[Whew. That really could’ve gone either way]
That’s the nicest thing anyone has said to me all day. Thank you.
{lolls out tongue }
If you believe that Michael Jordan took up baseball because he had been double secret stealth banned from the NBA for gambling, you might be a conspiracy theorist. Or me.
A CTer might think that something like that about Tony Schumacher’s many year absence from the NHRA, except that was for cheating. Maybe.
Don’t be so negative!!
Hmm… He does have a reputation for gambling, and has been in hot water for it…
Shit, am I a conspiracy theorist too now?!
One of us! ONE OF US!!!
Holy crap, how have I missed this? This stuff is brilliant!
Some of these stable geniuses have even tried pulling sovcit nonsnense in Singapore*. Let’s see how well they’ve fared:
For refusing to wear a face mask in public at Shunfu Mart, Ms Kaur was charged with 2 charges of public nuisance, with 5 other charges for refusing to sign a police statement and failing to report a change of residence to the authorities taken into consideration for sentencing. In May 2021, she pleaded guilty to her charges and was jailed for 2 weeks and fined $2,000.
In May 2021, Benjamin Glynn, a self-proclaimed sovereign, refused to wear a mask while riding in an MRT train. For his actions, Mr Glynn was confronted by the police at his home. He then turned aggressive and purportedly claimed, “I will f***ing drop anyone who tries to cuff me.”
Mr Glynn was charged with 2 charges under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act for failing to wear a mask, and 1 count each of harassment and being a public nuisance. He was remanded in the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric observation and remained in remand until he was sentenced, as his bail was revoked.
During trial, the court found him guilty, and he was jailed for 6 weeks with his jail term backdated to the start of his remand. He has since been deported and permanently banned from working in Singapore.
The second one had a hanger-on/adviser/shaman claiming to be his lawyer from “Kingdom Filipina Hacienda” which, of course, exists solely online to “[disseminate] pseudo-legal documents such as bank documents, identification documents and driver’s licences to its followers”.
From the link above (Singapore Legal Advice), there is this very important reminder:
If you encounter someone who appears to think of themselves as a sovereign citizen, try not to engage with them as they have shown a history of resorting to lawless violence in extreme cases.
*Because, of course, Singapore is rather famous for its lenient application of their laws.
I’m old enough to remember when this happened, and I’ve never even heard of this theory before reading this post, but it makes so much sense I’m 99.9% certain now it must be true.
Congratulations, you just turned me into a conspiracy theorist.
I think I’ve seen a documentary about this.
Is everyone a solipsist, or is it just me?
Here you go! I give you all Wiki has on the 23 enigma. Here’s just the beginning of that entry.
The 23 enigma is a belief in the significance of the number 23.[1] The concept of the 23 enigma has been popularized by various books, movies, and conspiracy theories, which suggest that the number 23 appears with unusual frequency in various contexts and may be a symbol of some larger, hidden significance. A topic related to the 23 enigma is eikositriophobia , which is the fear of the number 23.
I think anyone who was there should get a free pass to punch CTers in the face, based on the Buzz Aldrin precedent.
I’m behind that 100%!
I’ve long thought no one on the Dope exists, except for me.
All this time I’ve been debating a random collection of quarrelsome electrons.
What really ticks me off is that that non-existent random collection is smarter, funnier, and better looking than me.

Right? When I first read it, I thought… Naw, that’s crazy. Then I thought about it more. And… Damn, it wouldn’t surprise me.
And Jordan was the face of the NBA so it would definitely be something they’d keep quiet about.
I grew up in Chicago and followed the Bulls 6 championships during my teenage years. So I remember vividly. I have heard this theory before, but isn’t part of the point of suspensions for rules violations supposed to be a an example to deter other athletes in the sport from doing the same thing? I’m not sure I get the idea of why they would want it to be extra secret, and that it is still secret all these years later?

The other part is that you can’t bet on games you’re playing in if you’re not playing in any games. It also prevents you from violating the rules.
