Consumer items you would really hate/be screwed if they discontinued?

I’ll chime in with deodorant as well. But… I don’t like sticks at all. I only like spray deodorant. But not that powdery shit. Actual liquid spray. If that goes away (which I fear may be coming), I will be seriously bummed.

We had one in the 80s that was a wind-up device.

Do they come in the Slip-Ins style? I too have wide feet and could use some relief.

I have some armachillos but they have fallen out of rotation for me..

This goes even more so for me with regards to footwear. I had flat feet as a kid, and was a pronator, so my father had me professionally fitted for footwear and got me an expensive pair of New Balance 990 athletic shoes as a teenager in 1982 (which was the year they were first released). They were the most comfortable and supportive sneaker I had ever worn in my life. Today, 44 years later, they are the only model of athletic shoe I have worn since then.

I have gone through many dozens of pairs since then. I have gone through their whole series from 990 to 99x and back again to 990 multiple times. They are apparently now on 990v6.

They are expensive as f*ck, currently retailing for $199.99. But what I do is look for an older version that is being discontinued (like the 992 right when the new 993 came out), and can save a lot that way (as much as 50%). If I can get a good price like that, I then buy four pairs or so.

I used to wear various brands of sneakers/athletic shoes: mostly Nike and Adidas, but also Reebok and a few others.

About 20 years ago, I bought my first pair of New Balances as my everyday-casual shoes, and loved them. When I started running, 15 years ago, I bought New Balance running shoes; at about that same time, I switched over from buying NB’s “mass market” casual athletic/walking shoes, in favor of the somewhat more expensive, but also better quality, casual shoes which they sell at their branded stores and dedicated shoe stores.

I don’t run anymore, but I still only buy New Balances for my sneaker needs; I’m wearing a pair of their 997H right now. The only non-NB shoes I own and wear are a pair of Land’s End loafers, and a pair of nice dress shoes; neither of those pairs gets worn often these days.

If New Balance were to vanish, I’d be a very sad camper.

I just slip into mine. They don’t have laces or anything. But they are a BIT too wide at the back. Still, excellent to wear.

I was wearing New Balance sneakers at one point because some of their shoes are made in the United States, though I don’t think the ones I was buying were. Lately, I’ve been wearing Skechers slip-ons. Some are even machine washable.

I wore New Balance most of my adult life, but was convinced to try Hoka’s, and am never going back.

It would break my heart if they discontinued Crocs. I have several pair. Barring a chewing dog(yes Betsy I’m talking to you RIP) they really never wear out.

I was so happy they’ve had a resurgence of late.

I also have fat thighs and I discovered, somewhat by accident, these B+T Essentials Loose Fit jeans some years ago. Previously I had worn the Duluth Ballroom jeans but when I first tried the B+T jeans… well, lets just say I will never go back. They are incredibly comfortable in the seat and thighs and I am eternally praising the fat man clothing gods that I stumbled across these.

B+T has other styles in their Essentials line like Relaxed Fit but they don’t hold a candle to the Loose Fit jeans.

I would really hate it if Dr. Bronner’s liquid citrus soap was to be discontinued. I’ve used it for years as a shampoo and a body wash. I’ve tried other Dr. Bronner’s and none of them are as good as the citrus stuff. The other ones smell too strong or irritate my skin.

Oh and Dawn Platinum power spray.

Best, ever!!

Pretty sure my whole financial life would fall apart if You Need a Budget went under. I’ve been using it for at least fifteen years to manage my finances.

Would I ever write another novel without Scrivener? No app can compare.

Sometimes I get anxious about stuff like this, trying to imagine what I would do without some of my favorite one-off miracle products.

Interdental brushes.

I have weird teeth (I think that’s the correct medical term) and have some extremely tight gaps between the teeth. Dental floss is OK, but doesn’t get right down into some of the really nasty, deep crevices.

The feeling of poking, twisting and finally removing that last sinewy piece of steak or lamb after it’s been irritating you for a couple of hours is utterly euphoric.

I may be slightly addicted to these things. Still - could be worse.

Oral-B Glide Pro Health Advanced floss. I was totally shocked when my dental hygienist whisked it in and out of my teeth. I’d been wondering if it was possible for teeth to spontaneously fuse together, because mine were so tight I couldn’t slip anything in there without shredding it.

Ah, I see you’re in the UK. Electric kettles in North America are much slower than yours, due to our outlets delivering only about half the power. (Explanation)

It’s something you apply before shaving, and it’s called Afta ?

Weird. The dental hygienists at my dentist’s office advise against using Glide brand dental floss. They tell me that it’s so slick it doesn’t do a good job of cleaning between teeth. Anyone else hear that?

Huh. Damn it!

That’s the stuff my dentist gives out. I never run out. I’ve never had a problem with it. You’re probably fine.
