Consumers need protection!

I work for a small ad agency and we have been dealing with a large, well-known conglomerate which is famous for producing electronic equipment such as copiers and which, for reasons of self-protection, shall remain anonymous.

Their way of relating to customers is, shall we say, a mite on the coercive side. For example, four months before our lease was up two representatives showed up on our doorstep unannounced to claim it because we had not told them we were going to renew the lease. That was both weird and just a little infuriating. After hard negotiations we bought the thing for about 40% of what they originally wanted to charge us at which point they sent us an amazingly extortive service agreement which we refused, finding another company to service the equipment for about 15% of what these nice people were going to charge us.

Ever since telling them to buzz off, we have been getting regular bills complete with impatient exhortions to pony up for the sevice agreement. We have talked to them and, at their suggestion, sent two faxed letters to them declining service. We just got another bill and fear an attack on our credit rating.

Both we and the business in question operate out of New York state. Any suggestion for the best, legal way to throw these, um, entrepreneurs off their game will be greatly appreciated.
