A thread for “big hits” from any contact sport. No squabbling over American football vs. rugby etc.
A few from rugby union:
Hernandez on Keogh. Warning: Frenchmen wearing weird pink shirts.

[sub]Kidding aside, this one is definitely the “biggest hit” I’ve seen in cricket[/sub]
This is Phil Vickery in action v France (Rugby union)
But this one (by Josh Leswey) meant that Rogers never surfed again
Here are some of my favourite hockey hits:
Wendel Clark on Bruce Bell
Scott Stevens deserves a full top ten
I knew what that link was before I clicked on it.
Good stuff there.
Wow, that was an amazing six.
Here’s another, slightly less orthodox, big hit from cricket.
(Warning: NSFW)
One of my favorite big hits does not seem to be available anywhere on the web.
It was a 2002 NFL games between the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore was leading comfortably, but Denver had a shot at a long field goal right at the end of the first half.
The field goal missed, and Ravens defender Chris McAlister caught the ball 8 yards deep in the end zone. He hesitated a moment, and then ran it out. A Denver player was rushing in to try and make a play on McAlister, when Ray Lewis came out of nowhere and absolutely crushed him. It was a huge hit.
McAlister ran 108 yards for a touchdown in what was, at the time, the longest play in NFL history.
College: Marcus Riley knocks Colt Brennan out cold.
NFL: I’m a Denver fan, but Benjamin Watson kicks ass (it helps the Broncs won that one). What’s amazing about that play isn’t the hit itself, although it was decent, it’s the effort involved in making the hit possible at all.
Here’s a few from the Detroit Red Wings.
A Niklas Kronwall compilation.
My favorite. Hasek flips Gaborik.
And some Vladimir Konstantinov.
wearing a kronwall jersey right now:)
Sumo. September 2007, Day 12. Ama vs Goeido
Goeido (in purple*) was a lower-ranked wrestler who’d managed to rack up an impressive string of wins, and Ama (in black) decided he wanted to welcome the new kid to the big leagues. The result was a ending technique hardly ever seen in sumo, simply due to the laws of physics. Note that Goeido weighs over 300 pounds.
Okuri-tsuri-otoshi (quote from the commentator during the replay: “he’s not supposed to be gripping there”)
Someone also did a humorous re-make of the bout. I liked the earthquake alert at the end.
*the belts colors don’t indicate rank, they’re just personal preference.
A couple of hits from my Kentucky Wildcats:
Dicky Lyons decleats an LSU DB while throwing a block last season.
Myron Pryor teaches a Georgia receiver to be careful going over the middle.
My word, but there’s some depressingly ignorant shit in YouTube comments, isn’t there?
I hadn’t looked until you pointed it out, but you’re certainly right.
Although one of the reasons i hadn’t looked is that YouTube comments generally seem to attract some of the more moronic contributors on the internet.
The youtube comment section is one of the worst places on the internet.
“Have you been banned from every message board you’ve ever posted on? Well, have we got the place for you!”
I was at that game.
