Contact sport "big hit" thread

To be honest, I’m not sure. I’ve been playing, reffing, etc. since '92 and I cannot remember a time when this wasn’t the case. Also, I just checked with a friend who has been involved since around '88, his father since '67 and he cannot remember a time when not wrapping was allowed.

Also, if you want to see it enforced, watch some recent All Black matches when Jerry Collins was playing. I’ve seen it enforced against him SEVERAL times. I know, watching the AB’s may be anathema to most of you, but if you want to see some good rugby, who else are you going to watch?

Actually, it’s better with the sound.

Right about the tackle law, but as to that last comment, personally I’d pick a team that’s won the WC in the last twenty years.

That’s a good one! Personally, I’d rather see a team win one WC every 20 years and 75% of the rest of their matches than one WC and 50% of the rest of their matches.

From just last weekend, in college football (warning: disgusting ending at the :50 mark).

Just as you like, but I’ve got a fiver in my pocket that’ll still be saying “Four more years, mate” in 2011. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ohhhh you cheeky bastard, I see you’re pulling Gregan out of your arse… I’ll take that bet. After all, what’s five quid?

A classic NFL one where Wilber Marshall puts Lions QB Joe Ferguson to sleep.

I would like to find the one where Warren Sapp destroys Chad Clifton but the NFL is a fucking Youtube Nazi.

Anyone got a clip of Mick Skinner aka “Mick the Munch” flattening Marc Cecillon at the 1991 World Cup between England and France. Youtube seems to have removed them all.

I never understood the outrage about that hit. It was brutal as hell, but it was legal, and I don’t even think it was particularly dirty.

I was also looking for that. I found a picture of the crushing blow, but nothing more.

I love this one because LaRon Landry is supposed to be one of the hardest hitting safeties in the game and Brandon Jacobs just runs him over like he isn’t even there:

Love the Vladie classics. And the Hasek tripping call was BS.

Whoah…
