Contestant loses Miss USA for not being liberal enough.

He means that while gays can’t help being attracted to people of their own gender, they can decide not to act on this attraction and have sex with them.

So there’s no problem then, is it ? As long as gay men marry with women and don’t do it in the butt with another man, they can be as gay as they like ! And that’s freedom.

Whoa… so until eight years ago, EVERY society in the history of the world was controlled by bigots???

Who knew???

Only if we take it as granted that being polyamorous is comparable to being gay. I’ve not seen any evidence that this is the case.

Thanks, Kobal2. For Laudenum, that’s not at all obvious or clear from what he wrote.

Of course, aside from being stupid, it’s irrelevant. Miller’s definition was “something they have no control over”. It doesn’t make any difference if that something is their innate attraction or their behavior based on that attraction.

I thought everyone knew that until very recently homosexuality was regarded very poorly by most every society.

Don’t feel bad. A lot of folks make judgments about other people based solely on where they are from.

Those folks are called bigots.

Yes. Are you seriously suggesting otherwise?

Shame on you for bringing this up, while so many were having such fun pointing at Miss California’s “bigotry”.

Nope, nobody wants to touch this. All I hear is crickets chirping.

What are you talking about? Several people have responded to that, um, ‘argument’.

Instead of looking for crickets, you should read all the posts where we responded to it and said it was very bad of Mr Obama and that history will not judge him well in regard to his position which is undeniably bigoted and wrong.

You need to get your ears checked.

I’ll take one more stab at it.

Perez Hilton isn’t ripping Obama a new asshole, instead of bullying beauty pageant contestants because Perez Hilton is a fucking beauty pageant judge. Who gives a shit?

I don’t understand your argument and I’m not sure what you mean by “comparable.” Can you give me an example of something you consider comparable to being gay (or straight) and explain why it’s comparable? Thank you.

Do you even know who Perez Hilton is? He’s a celebrity gossip blogger. I’d say that’s qualification enough to judge the Miss USA pageant, but there’s no reason why any rational person should give a damn what Perez Hilton thinks of the president. He’s probably smart enough to realize that.

Yeah, but did he vote for the Bigot-in-Chief? I mean Miss California’s bigoted black heart and ignorance were revealed by the great Perez Hilton, while Obama’s bigoted black heart and ignorance were revealed in a series of debates and interviews. Guess it’s more important to keep those with bigoted black hearts away from the title of Beauty Queen than President of the United States.

How about the rest of you SSM supporters who think what happened to this young lady was justified or righteous, did YOU vote to put such a bigot in the White House?

Not being a single-issue voter, I don’t see what that has to do with it.

I voted for Obama, because I thought he was the best man for the job. I’m not happy about his position on same-sex marriage, but we’ll work on him.

If it makes you feel any better I will vigorously protest any claims he makes to Miss USA’s crown.

I’m not a single-issue voter either, but for those that were, why wouldn’t they choose the black-hearted bigot who at least unequivocally supports civil unions over the black-hearted bigot who doesn’t? As long as they’re going to vote for a BHB, they might as well vote for one that shows them some support over the one who doesn’t at all.

Oh, the hypocrisy of the left! Oh, the blatant hypocrisy of the left! Come see the hypocrisy of the left! Tired of hearing it? They’re just getting warmed up! As they say at the Osaka eel sushi bar: Oh, tempura! Oh, morays!

Of course I did. Who the fuck else was I going to vote for?

I’m sorry, but this whole “Gotcha!” line of argument is so incredibly stupid. There is not, and had never been, a viable presidential candidate who supported full equality for gays and lesbians. For anyone who has an interest in gay rights, the choice has always been between someone who thinks we should only have some rights, and someone who think we should have even less rights. Obama’s come as close to supporting full equality as any major candidate ever has, but he’s still fallen a bit short. Maybe in four years, he’ll make up the difference, or maybe we’ll have to wait on whoever the Dems run in 2016. If that candidate is still not quite there, we’ll probably vote for him anyway, because the Republican candidate is almost certainly going to be even more retrograde on the subject.

And, of course, there’s the fact that, as passionately as some of us feel about the subject, virtually no one votes solely on a candidate’s position on gay rights. Frankly, I’d have voted for Obama even if his position on gay rights was just this side of “God hates fags,” because there’s a bunch of other fucked up stuff going on with this country right now that’s a hell of a lot more important than gay rights, and he seemed far more capable of handling them intelligently than the opposition. Some of you seem to be deliberately missing, being president of the United States is actually more important than being Miss America. Kicking this bimbo out of the top slot of a meat showdoesn’t actually matter. Making sure John “Which ones are the Sunnis again?” McCain isn’t responsible for resolving the mess in Iraq, on the other hand, is pretty fucking important. So, yeah, we compromise on the gay rights issue, because that issue doesn’t involve nearly as many people being shot to death in a fucking desert on the other side of the planet.

So, yes, we voted for a bigot for president last year. Just like we did in 2004, 2000, 1996, 1992, and every other presidential election year ever since the concept of gay rights was first articulated. This isn’t new, this is the sort of choice we’ve always had to make, and it’s the sort of choice we’ll no doubt have to make again in the future. Congratulations to those of you who have just figured this out today. Welcome to the real world, I hope you all enjoy your stay.

OK. Substitute "interracial marriage’ for “slavery”. Unlucky for her that she drew the question the exposed her bigotry. Not sure why her bigotry should be ignored since other contestants didn’t get question that exposed theirs.
