Contestant loses Miss USA for not being liberal enough.

Well, she pissed off Perez Hilton-that’s one point in her favor.

If she had said she felt voting should be for white people she would have been tossed out of the contest in a chorus of boos and derision. She should feel lucky she did as well as she did.

So one of the judges seems to admit this was the reason.

IF it was true that her opinions were irrelevant, then they wouldn’t have the contestants answer questions, now would they? :smack:

If the point of such questions is not to judge the answer’s content, but rather how articulate the answer is, couldn’t she have failed for that reason?

Well sure they would, if the answers were likely to be ENTERTAINING.

Well it’s a good thing they kept that brazen bigot from being gawked at by millions of people!

More silicone than brassy, as we know, that attracts more gawkers.

Actually, Perez said something more nuanced. That she should have said it’s up to each individual state to decide. He had framed the question towards that, asking, “should every state follow Vermont.” That’d be a good answer, neither liberal nor conservative, saying that different people be free to live by their own values.

I’m fully in support of gay marriage but I’m disappointed that Miss California would lose points for essentially not holding the same political views as Hilton. I read some article where he came up with some half-assed answers that she “should have said” such as “It should be decided by the states” and some idiotic non-answer that Miley Cyrus gave in an unrelated incident where she said “Everyone should be HAPPY!”. Apparently the answer she wasn’t supposed to give was to speak what she throught was true and say marriage should be between a man & a woman.

I disagree with Miss CA’s beliefs but I’d rather hear her honest answer than some pandering to Perez Hilton’s feelings. Hilton’s response was frankly embarassing to me.

And I’m glad the winner came from one of the states noted for its tolerance!

(Sorry, North Carolina, but I just had to say it.)

Wherever did she get the notion that the alternative to same-sex marriage is “opposite marriage”?

I rarely pay any attention to these things, has this pageant been considered to have any kind of political leanings in the past?

Lest we forget the infamous wannabe Miss Teen US American, such as.

My guess is they all have a standard answer for whatever question they get – something like ‘I truly feel that [blank] should be [blank] in order for all American children to achieve their dreams! Go America!’ Occasionally someone gets screwed with something out of left field, or even just anything tougher than ‘Whales: Save or Nuke?’, and suffers for it. Luck of the draw, though barely noteworthy unless it’s a spectacular disaster.

But really, if she did get dumped based on her answer, more surprising than the political angle is that her words were actually given more weight than her hair, make-up and, well, weight.

Bwahahaha…

It’s not uncommon that there are potentially controversial questions in these beauty pagents. In the 1999 Miss Universe pagent the finalists were asked whether a pregnant Miss Universe should lose her title, and the eventual winner probably won due to her response to that question. Linky.

Basically, they all pretty much look alike so the judges need something to differentiate between them. It might as well be how well they’re able to think on their feet when getting an unexpected question. (Rather than: “How will you use your title to save the world?”)
Sure, she was honest, but when was that ever the point of a beauty pagent?

I can with some confidence speak on this subject, having just looked through all the contestants. I have to say, none of them are particular beautiful. Not a single one. They all appear to have this look you seem to like so much in the USA. Bony face and big teeth and close set eyes, make-up smeared out all over the place. But on the whole I think I’ll have to go with Miss Nevada, mostly because of her knockers. You never go wrong with a bit set of tits.

Miss North Carolina and Miss California are almost indistinguishable. In the fourth picture of Miss California she looks like something really dodgy is going on, or that she just saw a wet rat go into her purse. ewwww…-face. And her eyes are bigger than on anime characters. Miss North Carolina is also kinda ugly, but in her third picture she looks ok when seen from afar and given some blur. She is the correct winner of those two.

But with ugly skanks like that, no bloody wonder you have to bicker about such boring stuff like gay-marriage, which nobody gives a shit about. Go look up Miss Russia if you want to see how such girls are supposed to look. I bet they don’t have to yap about gay-marriage or any such nonsense. As long as they can cook a good borsch.

You could blacken their teeth in photoshop to make them more like your hometown cuties.

I could do that. And they would surely be prettier without those white plastic door planks you call teeth. But making them properly crooked too is beyond my Photoshop skills and why bother when any porn site have girls much more pretty. Even with clothes on. I have always found it a bit fun, that porn chicks are generally much better looking than both emaciated concentration camp escapees catwalk models and horsy looking Miss USA/America/World/bla bla. contestants.

Btw. Miss Nizhny (2004 or sumething) is my all time favourite beauty contestant. http://beeqube.com/picdump/miss_nizhny.jpg . Cute as a button and big tits trying to escape and just look at those teeth! Crooked as hell. I bet she cooks a killer borsch too!

Exactly. Regardless of her opinion in the matter, her answer showed that she is inarticulate, tactless, and irrational. Who in their right mind tells a judge in a competition that they are in, an answer that they know would be personally offensive to the judge? A smarter person, even if they wanted to express the same sentiment she did, could have done so in a more graceful and coherent manner. That alone should disqualify her.
