I’m not a majorly enthusiastic Bond fan, but I do like Bond films and generally try to see them in the theater rather than waiting for video.
I liked Casino Royale (Woody Allen was fantasic!*) and I feel like I remember it well enough even though I think I only saw it once, just when it was first released.
The second Daniel Craig Bond film, I saw but cannot remember. I can’t even remember the title (Yes, I’m using the internet right now and could look it up- but the fact that I can’t remember it is kind of the point). I seem to remember enjoying while I was watching it, but it definitely did not stick with me at all.
Is there any reason I should rewatch the second film before watching Skyfall?
*KIDDING! I’m talking about the 2006 film, of course.
Casino Royale seques right into Quantum Of Solace, QOS starts literally minutes after CR ends so it is basically a direct sequel and the plot of both is intimately connected. I have no idea how Skyfall will connect to them though.
Skyfall seems to be set some time after the events of the first two films - Bond is now the established senior field agent instead of the up-and-coming, unproven bully-boy with potential. There is no tie-back to QOS that I noticed.
Now, how could I forget a title that just springs off the tongue like Quantum of Solace?
Thanks. grude, although I remember very little of Quantum of Solace I think I did have a vague memory that it was, as you describe, a direct sequel to Casino Royale. I think that nagging half-memory is why I was concerned about going into Skyfall without a refresher.
DrFidelius, your description sounds like assurance that a refresher is not necessary. Thank you for that.
I recently saw a fanedit of QoS which was more involving, with references to Vesper pasted in. Much more enjoyable. Like you guys I had forgotten all about the story in it.
Skyfall really is about “you’re getting to old for this shit”, so in a whole other era.
