Controlling MP3 file size...

Does adding additional information to the ID3 tag of an MP3 file significantly increase the file size?

Here’s what I’m looking at doing:

I just got a new MP3 (Disc) player, and I want to put all the songs from all the CDs of my favourite band on one MP3 disc. Since I’m doing all that, I wanted to fill in the ID3 tages completely. I’m talking full album credits, full lyrics for all songs, .jpgs or .bmps of the album cover, a band picture, all the information I can.

Will doing this significantly increase the file size of each track?

The album covers might, but everything else together won’t.

Make a copy of the original MP3. Using the copy, add in all the information you want and then when you’re done compare the file sizes to each other. Consider this difference over several files and see how much more space it will take on the CD to do it all.

Those pictures probably would add some (especially BMPs, don’t use them), but I couldn’t see the text adding any more than 10-20KB per file. It’s just text, after all.
