Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread

Fourth and first, right? The officer told him there would be consequences if he continued to talk. That’s a textbook first amendment violation, right? Being arrested for speech? Or does it have to be related to the content of the speech?

Another death in a Texas jail.

Copwatch vs Cops - NY Times

Well, clearly he was lying. If he says he can’t breath he must be able to breath to say it. Right?

He’s breathing through his ears. It’s a common carnie trick.

I applaud the idea of CopWatch, and there is absolutely value in monitoring those who monitor society, but shouting insults at cops (i.e. “bitch and a half”) is entirely unnecessary.

Quote one is drastically different from quote two.
See if you can get that re-calibrated somewhere.

When you make a justice omelette, you need to break some brown eggs. Right Smapti??

Aye; he’s crazy.

Here’s a big, brave supercop dealing with a small child

“You don’t get to swing at me like that” handcuffs kid in a stress position

You would prefer he had Tased him?

Medical responders should have been called in sooner, when it became apparent that he was still in distress despite the fact that he was no longer being physically restrained.

They should have shot him. I mean he probably did not obey a legal order so he is a criminal. Right, Smapti? This was OK for a 10 year, why not this 8 year old?

Yes that was the only other option, you stupid fucking sociopath.

Interference with Law Enforcement, Kansas state law;

Here we have a third party introducing himself into a matter which is none of his concern and demanding answers from an officer who has already sufficiently explained himself. The officer asks for his identification; when he says he doesn’t have it, the officer chooses not to press the matter, asks him his name, and graciously gives him the opportunity to walk away before he does something that the officer would have the power to arrest him for.

What great inalienable right of all men has been violated here? The right to not be asked your name? The right to be given a chance to not incriminate yourself?

This is the slippery slope this nonsense has been leading us to over the past year - cops are now being smeared as vicious oppressors of the people for the mere offense of using coarse language while de-escalating a conflict. Next we’ll be applying “the customer is always right” to police stops.

Is there a hard age limit as to when it is or isn’t acceptable to handcuff someone who’s being physically violent and disobedient? What is it? 13? 16? 30? I suppose the officer should have just stood there and waited until the little ball of rage was all punched out, right? I mean, heaven forbid that an adult ever assume a position of authority over a child, let alone discipline them for their actions. That might make the kid cry.

What was the result of this, if any? Did the cop get a promotion?

The teacher should have stopped it, not continue to video the torture for 15 minutes.

Smapti, how often are you allowed out?

Never mind. I clicked on the pic under the poorly named “Related Stories,” but which is the same story, expanded.

That’s how teachers handle them.

As opposed to handcuffing him like he did? Fuck yes! The kids was 8 years old. How much damaged do you think he was going to do? Chrissakes, the red meat impacted in that cops colon probably outweighs the kid. I think he could have made it out of that scuffle unscarred. Unlike the kid did.
