Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread

A regulation was proposed by the province last fall, and made into law at the start of January 2017. Here’s the full text. http://canlii.ca/t/8z1k It is well worth reading.

Yup, apparently large cash settlements are the only possible post-event justice black people get in police shootings.

And just how telling is this racism even before the shooting? The only reason he was treated as a threat was because he was black. 2 cops thought he was a suspect and ordered him to the ground. He was trained police officer. He had done nothing to lead anyone to believe he did anything wrong. He was ordered to the ground because he was black. Once they found out he was a cop, well then, everything was okey dokey.

Then the other cop showed up and thought he was a threat, only because he was black. And shot him. What could this trained black police officer have possibly done to make the latest white cop on the scene think lives were in danger? The answer? He was black.

Sadly, cowardice is the best case scenario here.

US Park police who were working undercover busted three black teenagers on the Capitol Mall because the were committing the horrendous crime of selling bottle water without a license. And because they are apparently cowards, they handcuffed the teenagers “for the officers’ safety.” And, I repeat, they broke their undercover status to bust these kids. Because they were apparently a danger to the public.

Florida cop tickets a black man for walking without a license, which is not a law.

Man, to be a late night show comedy writer. The skits just write themselves.

The cop also fucks up by telling Mr. Shipman that two cars had to slow down because of him and that the cars had the right of way. This is incorrect. Florida statutes specifically do not grant right of way to anyone; instead the laws only say who must yield and the answer to that is: everyone must yield in order to avoid a crash or accident. Cite and cite.

Officer Bolen was clearly mad about something, IMO, and he saw someone he could take that anger out on. Mr. Shipman just happened to be there and by allegedly jaywalking gave the officer an opportunity and a target.

Three Chicago police officers were indicted Tuesday on felony charges that they conspired to cover up the actions of a white police officer who shot and killed 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.

Reading thru the article, the conspiracy was pretty far-ranging.

There was no justice for Fred Hampton when the Chicago PD and the FBI straight up murdered him in his bed, but I guess things have changed enough that maybe, MAYBE, there can be justice for Laquan McDonald.

It is discouraging and embarrassing how little outrage there is about this in the gun community. I mean, I knew that geographic factors meant that there would be a lot of gun owning racists but I thought there were enough midwstern libertarian type gun owners to make sure that racism didn’t define gun ownership.

(bolding mine)

Are you discouraged and embarrassed at the amount of the settlement or at the fact that there was a settlement? “About this” appears to be undefined.

I don’t think he was really commenting on the settlement at all.

As far as i can can tell, be believes that the community of gun owners should be more angry about the killing of Castile, given that he was killed after telling the officer that he was carrying a legal firearm. If this were a white hunter who had been killed in similar circumstances, the NRA would be all over this.

Has the NRA made any comment on the decision?

And 100% unsurprising.

They’re having a moment of silence for him.

Man serves 90 days in jail for possession of drywall powder.
Man Spends 90 Days in Jail After Police Mistake Drywall Powder for Cocaine?

Possession with intent to spackle.

Worst of the kind.

This does once again bring up a point I have made in this thread on numerous occasions, you don’t have to kill a man to destroy his life.

This sort of thing would completely devastate most people. Spending 3 months locked up, not working, not paying bills, not seeing friends or family.

Friends and family turn on you, since you are going back to your druggie ways, and had lied to them about it. Even after being exonerated, they will still have bits of doubt and mistrust that were placed there by these lying cops.

These cops and this k-9 unit had to know that they were making a bad arrest. If they really thought that that was cocaine, they are too stupid to be cops, and if they didn’t, then they are too dishonest to be cops.

Either way, any cop involved in this arrest should be removed from the force, as they are only a hazard to the public.

Mhendo pretty much got it right. The only people upset in the gun community are the minorities. Its almost as if the white dudes are OK with the notion that the second amendment right to bear arms only applies to white dudes. I have seen multiple videos of white dudes with their hands ON THEIR GUN being talked down by cops who have their arms out to the side like the fucking karate kid so they don’t present a threat to the jumpy white dude with a gun.

This guy had a carry conceal permit. When we talk about good guys with guns, THIS is who we are talking about. We are not referring to saints with guns, we are talking about average ordinary armed law abiding citizens, like Philando Castile.

I don’t even want that cop in jail. I just want the gun side to be upset that the cop shot Philando.

Thanks for the clarification. I disagree with you about wanting the cop in jail, but agree with everything else in your post.

I certainly would have expected a strong statement from some of the NRA’s more thoughtful leaders, such as, for example, The Nuge.

They commented officially two days after the shooting, and one of their members commented unofficially on the ruling.

Not that it will make any difference.

Shodan
