Georgia Sheriff and Deputies go to High School and conduct warrentless search on…everyone.
Sheriff says School officials said OK. School says they were never asked, just notified that he was going to do it ‘sometime’.
12 ‘suspected’ drug users, 900 students searched. Of course, they found nothing.
Guess they were getting antsy not shooting anyone in so long.
They found tits and ass, isn’t that worth anything?
This incident was reported in this thread by Snowboarder Bo back in June.
The good news from your story, however, is that the Sheriff and some of his deputies have now been indicted, and there is also a federal civil rights case pending. Here’s the complaint in the civil case.
And dicks, if they swung that way.
That’s good, but I have little hope of a real penalty of any sort ever happening.
Possibly, but a criminal charge is, in and of itself, a pretty serious thing for a cop acting in the line of duty. They could well lose their jobs no matter the outcome of the trial, and a guilty verdict would have even more consequences, although probably not sufficient to satisfy many of us.
The problem with the civil suit, of course, is that if the plaintiffs win, their payout will probably come from the county, and therefore from the pockets of some of the very same people whose rights these assholes violated.
On the one hand, judgments against cities and counties in cases like this might encourage more of them to be more careful in choosing their law enforcement leaders. On the other hand, it would be nice to see more of these asshole cops have to pay out of their own pockets when they violate people’s civil rights.
A woman with special needs was accused of stealing a $3 pack of hair ties from Walmart. Instead of asking her if she actually bought the hair ties, police slam her into the ground within 10 seconds of approaching her. The police steadfastly refused to apologize for the incident, instead preferring to pay out a $125,000 settlement.
Lots we don’t know yet, and I’d like to see whatever video exists, of course. But…
That’s something that has popped up in far too many news stories linked in this thread; I can’t ignore it.
ETA: Just watched the video. Not sure she needed to be shot.
I found this in the Miami Herald story:
So it looks like legally this isn’t controversial at all.
Carry on.
A subreddit I found full of links to relevant stories (or those deemed relevant). Have fun: Bad Cop, No Donut!
Damn. There are some serious problems there.
Not “probably”.
Not “likely”
“Could”-Which pretty much includes the entire fucking population of our country.
The person who was shot had just run over the officer’s partner. This seems like about as good of a reason to shoot someone as you’ll get in this thread.
So don’t flee from the fucking cops then.
I would be careful with this sub. I have been perusing it for a long time (well over a year) and while it does always have a record of the latest bit of police brutality (much of which I have posted here), it is also full of Russian trolls and links to fake news / propaganda sites trying to stir up racial animus. With all the reporting that has been coming out on Russian interference in our social media, it has become very clear to me that this subreddit is absolutely rife with it. In fact, I believe I saw a story in the NYT that called out a couple of the “news” sites common on the sub by name and had documentation of the Russian influence. I now look for the story on the local TV affiliate or daily rag using Google and I have found that only ~30% of the time do the facts agree or that all the circumstances are told.
All of this has almost been enough to make me sympathetic to conservatives and their distrust of the media. Almost. The reason that I am not sympathetic is that conservative media has a much higher penetration rate in this regard and they are much more credulous when it comes to falling for it.
Still, try to remain objective when perusing this subreddit, there is a lot of bull shit on there in my humble opinion.
Horrifying. Here are just the first 25 links from that page.

Many of these stories are heart-wrenching. I’ll just comment on #5 and #13.
A study by the Guardian (since pursued by U.S. agencies and media) shows that over half of police killings are misclassified, i.e. shown as “accidents” or “suicides.” Killings by non-police are not misclassified. It is federal law that police departments must report police killings to the FBI. Compliance varies from state to state. Oklahoma misclassified 100% of its police killings. (Oklahoma was one of only three states to vote 65+% for Trump. Coincidence?) (It is sad how often exposés like this show up in foreign news sources, not America’s.)
The Sheriff of Caddo Parish complains in a news conference caught on video that it is the “good” prisoners that are released. These are “the ones you can work, can pick up trash [etc.]”, i.e. who can be used as slave labor.
Because still targets are easier to hit?
Yep. Look at Tamir Rice. He was a small target, yet easy to hit as he stood still.
