Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread

According to the cite -

It doesn’t say why she was told to leave. As to why she was arrested -

The outstanding warrant was for failure to appear on a credit card fraud case - the police didn’t know about that until later.

I know you’re stupid, so I’ll explain: the comments you think you were replying to were rhetorical questions. Rhetorical questions aren’t real questions; they’re posed to make a point. Your reply (like the vast majority of yours) was unnecessary and added nothing to the discussion.

New York woman whose baby was ripped from her arms by officers won’t face charges

That final line in the story almost appears to be included to generate outrage considering the complete lack of detail in it. It conspicuously doesn’t say that people have been held without bail hearings or exactly what their offenses are. From the context of the story we are to assume that they’re being held for traffic offenses and minor drug charges rather than murder or operating a meth lab. Many of the 600+ who have been there more than a year could be because their own lawyers are filing for extensions. Details matter and stories lacking details make me question why.

My guess is many of those 600 (and 2500) have had bail hearings, but the amount set was more than they can afford, so they sit in jail. If you’re near broke, the $5000 bail for your petty crime may as well be $500,000, because you don’t have the money. Hence the movement to eliminate bail for many arrests, because instead of doing what it is intended to do, get people to come back for their trial, it is instead keeping them in jail indefinitely.

Well, if we are doing rhetorical questions, were you dropped on your head as a child?

That’s my guess as well, along with my opinion on the matter. But making us have to guess is completely unnecessary in a format where words are essentially free.

So much for the “good guy with a gun.” This makes the whole story even more tragic.

A good guy with a gun can only be stopped by a better guy with a gun?

Officer sucker punches man in video released by whistleblower cop

This looks like it had fuck all to do with law enforcement.

So a cop who wasn’t there took a cell phone video of the playback of the incident. Sadly, this probably will not be good for Officer Dominguez’s career.

One of the subtle nuances of “ACAB” is that given that this guy is probably not a bastard, he presumably will not be a cop for much longer.

Police Shot An Ohio Newspaper Owner. Now His Paper Is Going Out Of Business

An Ohio newspaper owner stopped to take pictures of a police stop in progress. As he got out of his car, he was shot by a deputy sheriff, who thought his camera tripod was a rifle. When the deputy was exonerated, he sued the county for damages.

Boy, sure seems like a good time for young people to leave.

A bank in Ohio refused to cash a black man’s paycheck even though he provide two forms of ID and a fingerprint, as was their requirements, and when he left, the called the cops on him because apparently a black man couldn’t possibly have a $1000 paycheck. The cops blocked him off and wouldn’t let him leave and put him in the back of their car until somebody finally contacted his employer and verified that the check was good.

Time for a huge lawsuit. Freeze their assets, take as much as possible, ruin careers, and then follow up with as many criminal complaints as your attorney can think up. Go for fucking blood.

Yeah, after an incident like that, McOwens should be looking for a considerably larger paycheck. Arrested for trying to cash a valid check. What the fuck.

In the “we don’t need no stinking transparency” department,

Until recently, Inglewood retained records related to officer-involved shootings for 25 years. Earlier this month, the City Council voted to reduce that time frame to five years and then voted to destroy the older records. Activists see it as an intentional effort to avoid the accountability promised by Senate Bill 1421, a new law that allows the public to obtain personnel and investigatory records for officers involved in shootings, sexual assault and misconduct.

Long Beach, similarly, is going to destroy 23 years worth of Internal Affairs documents — but the move has nothing to do with the new law (they say).

I don’t understand stuff like this. The mayor is black. Two of the city council members are black. Why would they vote for something like this?

At least this one was held accountable. I guess a dog is more valuable to the cops than a person.

To gain political support from the police department.

Do NOT watch the video. I’m still furious.

A fucking Chihuahua was so menacing and terrifying, that a wannabe Barney Fife had to shoot it in the face. They actually gave that asshole a badge and a GUN.

He got fired, but unfortunately I hear he immediately got ANOTHER job with a badge and a GUN. What the fuck.
