Cool bass intros

…that don’t appear again in their songs.
If accompanied - like in the following (by guitar strums/licks every seven, I think) (and a basic drum beat) - as long as the bass is clearly the lead, then all good.
Video/audio not necessary.

Elvis Costello’s Pump It Up

Black Sabbath N.I.B.

Heavy on bass…don’t miss the part at about 1:56. Graham Maby is great.

Personally, the first bass intro that comes to mind is from Daniel Amos’s “Darn Floor, Big Bite”

“Space Truckin”

RHCP - Higher Ground

Flea is pretty good.

Meh, kinda regretting my Deep Purple selection.
A way more hepcat one would be The Animals’ We Gotta Get Outta This Place

Always liked the bass intro of The Pretenders ‘Mystery Achievement’.

I was thinking the theme to Barney Miller, myself.
YouTube link.
I’m not sure if it fits with the OP, though.

May I mention Dear Prudence by The Beatles although the bass kicks in around the 18-second-mark. It has an understated but entirely pivotal bass. One of McCartney’s finest really.

Most people seem to be missing or ignoring the stipulation in the OP about the bass intro not repeating itself in the song - even those where the intro is different are mostly just a variation on the main bass riff. I wonder if there are any good examples of a bass intro completely different from the riff?

One of my personal favourites (which similarly does not conform with the OP) is Keep the Faith by Bon Jovi, a great bass intro and riff at the heart of the song.

Um, I guess the intro to Metallica’s Anesthesia ?

Testament - Souls of Black

The bass intro emulates the guitar riff to come, but the bass itself does something else once the guitars come in.

Bombtrack - RATM
Around The World - RHCP

Just take those old records off the shelf…

OK…best bass intro THAT IS NOT REPEATED AGAIN ANYWHERE IN THE SONG?

Jaco Pastorius - Balloon Song from the “Criteria Sessions.”

THREAD OVER. OVER!!!

The Sliding Floor - Jeff Berlin

Bruford, actually, Jeff is the Bass player

Rage Against The Machine - Calm like a Bomb

Hell, I’ve always considered the bass solo to be the “song”, and the whiplash/anesthesia part to be the outro.

The first 20 seconds or so of Gutter Cat vs The Jets from School’s Out.
