Lyndsey got tired of Stevie’s lace-witch motiff. He especially hated the twirling. She would twirl and he would shoot her a dirty look. The dirtier the look, the more she’d twirl.
And rock grand?
And in good FM-related news, Christine McVie has a new CD out next month! Woo hoo!
I’ve heard a few snippets and she sounds as good as ever. In fact she sounds damned good for a 61-yr old woman who’s been singing for nearly 40 years!
In the movie Don Juan DeMarco, Johnny Depp seduces a woman he meets in a restaurant. The woman’s climax is punctuated by a Latina singer. That singer was Selena.
You seem to know your stuff, so I’m not arguing with you, but…I remember that when that movie came out, and I went to see it, and I heard the song in it, that I was very familiar with the song. Now, I was born in late 1963, so I sure as hell didn’t remember it from 1967, but for “such a minor song” that never charted at all until after GMV, it must have had some radio airplay over the years. And no, my parents didn’t own a copy.
Just an observation…
Carry on, this is fascinating (even the stuff I already knew).
Oh, and …
I’d like to put in a plug for John Hiatt (“Have a Little Faith in Me”, which has appeared in numerous movie soundtracks), who has written some songs that others have had great success with, such as
“Thing Called Love” (Bonnie Raitt),
“Angel Eyes” (Jeff Healey),
“Drive South” (Suzy Bogguss),
“Riding With the King” (B.B. King and Eric Clapton duet).
I like Mr. Hiatt’s versions of all of the above songs better than the “hit” versions. The man got chops.
Keanu Reaves’ latest band, becky, performs the theme song for Jo Jo’s Circus, a preschooler show on Playhouse Disney channel! And it does actually rock pretty hard for a kid’s show!
Amost as scary as Ringo Starr & George Carlin doing the narration on my sons’ Thomas the Tank Engine tapes!
Yes, Lindsey (that is the correct spelling, BTW) got so “tired” of it he included girls in similar garb in his solo videos and on his album covers, haha!! Like he wasn’t carrying a torch at all, you know…
And yes, just so we do give the “other lady” of FM her due, Christine had a very torrid thing with Dennis Wilson while he was at his worst. He burned her pool house down. Chris and her ever-present wine glass are sorely from present-day FM. I will be buying her CD.
Me…serious in a thread like this? No sweat bud. This is stress relief for me.
and I never said fuckin either. That would be mean. It could’ve been…hmm freakin, friggin, fraken, fuggin, frozen  the list goes on and on.
Allright I admit it! That’s what I meant. You’re right, but I swear listening to him sing “The CandyMan” everyday’ll make you feel like you’ve got a fuckin tumor.
[Arnold]IT’S NOT A TUMOR[/Arnold]
and seosamh Thanks that sounds familiar. Somebody tried to tell me awhile back that it was Joan Jett. I wasn’t buying it. Now tell me they’re the same person. :grrr:
What? No guesses on the mystery Elvis album. The one where he supposedly came back from the dead. I guess you could say it was his Resurrection album.
I’ll lead the thread away from Fleetwood Mac, since, as someone who really doesn’t like the band, I can’t contribute to their info.
Actor Bill Paxton was in the videos for Pat Benatar’s Shadows of the Night, and Barnes & Barnes’ Fish Heads. Judge Reinhold was also in the Pat Benatar video.

Just as well, because IT’S NOT GENE WILDER singing the song. It’s Aubrey Woods, in the role of Bill, proprietor of Bill’s Csndy Store.
Trivia: Anthony Newley, composer of the songs in the film, hated Woods’s performance so much that he offered to sing it himself, in an overdub. I have no idea why David Wolper turned him down, because Newley’s critique was right on the mark, IMHO.
Can’t let a music trivia thread go by without a mention of Richard Farina, one of my favorite people. He played the dulcimer, wrote books, and was an all out crazy guy. He married Joan Baez’s younger sister Mimi, wrote the now-classic song “Pack Up Your Sorrows” with her older sister Pauline, was best friends with Thomas Pynchon and wrote a song called “V,” wrote a novel called “Been Down so Long It Looks Like Up to Me” (inspiration for a Doors song) and died on Mimi’s 21st Birthday in a motorcycle crash.
A novel of his book was made into a movie starring the young Raul Julia. An off-Broadway show of his life starred the young Richard Gere.
Eric Schmidt’s book “Positively 4th Street” is an excellent bio of Richard & Mimi and Joan & Bob Dylan and the early 1960’s NYC folk scene.
Randy Meisner joined Poco as the bassist, but left before their first album. Luckily for him, he got the same job for the Eagles. Timothy B. Schmidt replaced him in Poco.
Right before the Eagles recorded their monster hit Hotel California, Randy left to pursue a solo career. His replacement: Timothy B. Schmidt!
Makes you wander if Schmidt follows Meisner around to see if he’s happy in his current band.
Paxton had a band of his own, Martini Ranch, and had a minor hit on radio and video in the 80’s with Reach!. I think he’s wearing a Martini Ranch t-shirt in one of his movies (Aliens maybe).
You may remember ODB running onstage during the 1998 Grammys during Shawn Colvin’s acceptance speech proclaiming “Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best!” But the reason for the timing? When they announced Shawn Colvin, ODB thought they had said “Sean Combs” (Puff Daddy’s real name)
I don’t have the exact release date of the Miracles album, but it charted in May 1965, which would indeed put it just about one year before Blonde on Blonde (and Freak Out). However, there were two Beatles-related double LPs released in 1964: The Beatles Vs. the Four Seasons (October 1, 1964) and The Beatles Story (November 23, 1964). Dylan still retains the claim to the first rock double LP consisting of new music.
The song *Wild Thing * made famous by The Troggs was written by Chip Taylor who also wrote Angel of the Morning. Chip Taylor is actor Jon Voight’s brother.
